Dutchy, no worries. It is in fact my FIL, didn't you now?
I don't know if they've had any feathered friends. That balcony is south facing, so I'm not sure.
It's so frustrating about missing posts tho' isn't it? I wrote a big long one on another website on Monday evening, detailing my encounter with otters in Dublin, went back yesterday, and poof, it had gone. Was too disheartened to type it all out again!
sayonara! -_-

This morning I observed Blue Tit - think could be Great version as quite big - enter Box, stay in quite a while, poke head out a few times and then fly out - still hovering so do hope it is to his/her liking and they make a nest Stood shivering by bedroom window with camera at the ready and they didnt return maybe gathering "furniture" ;D

Oooo yes there is - my lawn ;D I nearly said No - I was only looking at it yesterday
Did you know the Japanese weed out all the grass and keep the moss - so I read they would just love my lawn - its mainly moss - in a shaded part of the garden doesnt get much sun

We have 2 boxes for blue tits, the birds are really taking an interest in them at the moment.
Last year we had a family of tree creepers in one of them. Lovely little birds ;D

Ivy contains masses of insects so they will have an in house restaurant ;D Mine are still chipping away like a woodpecker at the entrance - they can go in and out OK but not sure what this action is all about They are lovely fat birdies - hope they decide to move in

Barbara they may be Wrens that you have. Jenny our GT's make the holes larger dont know why maybe its so all the young can look out together waiting to be fed. We have 1 that sits on the Tractor mirror and plays merry hell with its reflection, you can here it banging on the mirror with its beak, its quite funny to watch.

I have three boxes in my garden, the old one is used every year, the two new ones are definately being checked out. Out in the garden on Mon, kept hearing this knocking sound, checked around incase I had missed a visitor, nothing. Back in the garden a little while later, same noise, checked again, nothing. Garden again, noise again, then noticed a little face peaking out of a nest box, you've guessed it, it was birds building nests, I did feel a bit of a twit. Noisy neighbours what a blessing ;D

I nagged OH into making me a box a couple of weeks ago after reading all this lot. This morning we saw a Great Tit at the hole giving it the once over. We though nothing would happen this year as it's too new. Fingers crossed now though. ;D

About 3 yrs ago,we had great tits nesting in a box, never been back since, now every year, the starlings take over,i dont like starlings, horrible greedy birds

Post by Dutchy on Apr 14, 2008 17:22:18 GMT
Starlings breed under every corner of our roof. Noisy birds but there is plenty of worms around so I don't mind them. And I don't hang washing or park my car in their flight path ;D The tits are not brooding but the nest has been claimed and there is some activity. The box I hung at MssK has been discovered too. It's only been up a few months. You know that song they have to which you can sing along the " It's Mine It's Mine It's Mine ". Well there is one there singing its head off. Maybe he ( I assume it is a he ) is trying to get an extra lady.

Has the cuckoo been around Dutchy - I know every year I visit Holland I hear it - hardly ever hear it in the UK now I remember, much to the amusement of the Americans, and the Dutch guide, I was shreaking my head off when I heard it - Cuckoo Cuckoo I yelped - think they all thought I had gone cuckoo
