Hi Fozzie, I lived in the Barbican 1971/73 , and worked in New Bridge Street at Blackfriars. I had to walk through Smithfield Market to get to work. I was greeted most mornings, by a young lad who seemed always to be pushing a barrowful of pig's ears, with the remark. "Morning Rose, get 'em off" Now, I should be so lucky!!! That area was full of atmosphere and I have many happy memories, and I often visited the pubs in Fleet Street and others round there. I remember the pub opposite my work was particularly good. Was it called "The Blackfriar"? can you remember? It was always full of office people, of course. But what I remember best was a huge boiled ham which stood on the bar, and when you wanted a sandwich, it was cut fresh. Gorgeous! The pubs around Aldgate was another stamping ground.

Halfway through my all time top 10 countdown and at number 6 we have The Specials - "Do Nothing" I remember "skanking" to this track at "Monday Club" - it was basically a school disco for 10 - 15 year olds in our local community centre every Monday evening. It used to cost 2p to get in and I used to think I was really cool in my maroon sta-pressed trousers, white socks and loafers This song also reminds me of snogging Lindsay Green round the back of the community centre after Monday Club had finished.......!!! She was rather lovely - long brown hair and beautiful brown eyes. *sigh* happy days. You realise when you look back now that you never had a care in the world when you were young (even if the little school disagreements, homework etc seemed massive at the time !). Everyone else I know raves about "Ghost Town" by The Specials. To me, this track is far superior to anything else they did. The sound quality of this clip isn't great and it doesn't really do the track a lot of justice unfortunately. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vte2mtO80ckFA x

WT, Is that the road that goes down to Blackfriars Bridge?, I know I've been in the pub you describe but as to name I am not sure, its a looooong time ago. Most of the pubs around there used to have opening times to match the businesses, which is why you could nearly always find one open. Your a long way away, Is this home home or just another step on lifes road? Fxx

Back to thread theme.
Bring some divas back to my list of desserting songs. The Queen of Soul has been mention earlier. This must be my all time favourite. Her version of 'Bridge over Troubled Water is something else. If you like the track then you'll love this version.
Mention in sealed envelope, as is entry no1, to be opened by No1 son, some time many years in the future.
If you like Aretha, then try Amelia Jackson. My fav at moment is 'Summertime'
desert Antartica
Island - Tresco

No wonder I thought it was lovely, it seems to be quite a place, architecturally. I'm more interested in design now, must visit if I'm ever down there again. freenet.buffalo.edu/bah/a/archsty/a-c/black/index.html

This is my second entry in the Top 10 (but they aren't in my particular favourite order, more how they come into my head ) I'm transporting you all back to 1983.... To a night when I'd changed my off duty rota so I could go out on the town To a club in Ipswich (I've forgotten it's name).... And to the night I queued to get into the club, just so I could watch the first ever screening of this.......... uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AtyJbIOZjS8It's in my Top 10 because for the duration of the 13 minute video - which was unheard of at the time - I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. It's also in my Top 10 because the choreography is absolutely fantastic, it's like a mini film, and it's in my Top 10 because it's long before Mr Jackson went abit crackers (allegedly....just incase his lawyers are logged in ) Onto dessert - something with Rhubarb (not fussy really ) or Mersea in Essex....went there once, many moons ago and one day I will go back, even though I think it is full of caravans

I've lost count. I am going to have to include a George number! ;D I think it would have to be between these two: and Both are beautiful, haunting songs. But I think I'll have to go for Different Corner. You Have Been Loved always makes me cry. I can't be bawling me eyes out every five minutes on an island inhabited by me and a bunch of fellas! ;D Dessert - Rice pudding and strawberry sauce. Another happy school memory Capt!

Glad to hear you have enjoyed watching Mr Jackson Tigridia. My next entry is abit of a mad one , I suppose it could be called Acid House/Trance/Techno. All I know is that it reminds me of the first trip I had to Egypt, whenever I hear it (and I'm lucky enough to have a copy because I think they deleted all their back catalogue music), I'm transported back to a very happy holiday, one of the best bits was, finally getting to see the death mask of Tutankhamen. It is truely beautiful and a work of art. (I had wanted to see it as a small child in 1972 when it came to London, however, my Mum said 'it would be boring'.....never forgiven her for that , we laugh about it now, and she's going to take me to see it at the Millennium Dome - or whatever they are calling it now) It's one of those songs that I have to sing along too and it 'features' Tammy Wynette...... I'll skip dessert, I'm off to MuMu land ;D

Aww Cap'n, great choice. Sorry to do this but I'm going in with DG's No.7. Hooked on Classics? We certainly are, so pop some shag in your pipe and check out the sounds of comrade Tchaikovsky's 1st movement of his 6th Symphony. Poptabulous! Anyone for lemon sorbet? PS Jlottie - Landslide - TUNE! Love that song What's wrong with the rest of Tchaik 6?

I'm into my top 5 now. At number 5 on my all time list is....... The Primitives - "Crash" I have no happy memories relating to this song or any particular reason why I should like it. It's just 2½ minutes of jangly guitar pop heaven ! The lead singer's a bit of alright too ! uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AQFo2-xZiksFA x
