Just got back from holiday so catching up ... think it will take me a while to choose a top 10 ... top 100 would be easier But I'd definitely like to share Kirsty MacColl's version of Days with Plocket for my no. 1, please ... I love Kirsty MacColl's music and I'd pick that one because I really liked the video - reminded me of my student days, which were brilliant. And I'd have to have Great Britain as my island because I want to listen to it on a punt on the Cam, eating summer pudding ;D

Right, while I'm mulling over my Duran Duran song I'll choose something else. ;D My sixth choice, is Depeche Mode. I've always liked them, but as I was a big Duranie in the early 80's I never got into them big time ;D Anyway, after them drifting in and out of the charts again over the years, in 1997 they came out with two tracks that I thought were amazing, and I really believed they were back with avengeance. They were Barrel of a Gun, and It's No Good.
I'm going to choose It's No Good:
I love this video. I know I won't be able to watch it on my Island, but I can visualize Daves Cheesy, Gold Lame suit, and his brilliant, corny hand gesture near the end. This is so cool.
Can I have a huge slab of Bournville for my pud? I'm eating it right now! ;D

My obligatory David Bowie track would be Wild is the Wind ... I'll have that one at Skara Brae on the Orkney islands ... think I'll need some hot sticky toffee pudding and custard to keep me warm while I'm there Oops - forgot to say why that track ... I don't really need to say why David Bowie, do I? And I just like that one best - don't know why.

Really difficult to choose - Cream - Sunshine of your love? or Jethro Tull - Skating Away? or Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms? or Eurythmics - Would I lie to you?
Annie won ;D

hmmmm. Next? Catatonia - Strange Glue. Why - just enchanted by that voice! I like that one too, Slugger - think it's probably my number 11 or 12 though - we'll see. The next one in my top 10 (which are in no particular order, btw) is U2's 40 (from the War album). They're one of my favourite bands and the lyrics are based on the first few lines of Psalm 40, which means a lot to me as a Christian: I waited patiently for the Lord He inclined and heard my cry He brought me up out of the pit Out of the miry clay I will sing, sing a new song ... He set my feet upon a rock Made my footsteps firm Many will see Many will see and fear I will sing, sing a new song ... Um ... dessert - grasshopper pie, which a friend of mine used to make for parties when I lived in Ireland - as far as I can remember, it consists almost entirely of cream and creme de menthe - I wouldn't be able to eat it now, but who cares, I can imagine Island - in keeping with the Irish theme, I'll go with Rathlin Island, off the north coast of Norn Iron.

I think I'm down to my No.2 now and I'm going to choose "Cloud No.9" by Bryan Adams. First of all I should say that I think there are two versions: a mellow one and a more funky one. I prefer the first. I've chosen it because I love Bryan's voice and although he's done the odd song that we are all sick and tired of, I think that's more down to the marketing and overplaying of said song rather than it being Bryan's fault. Anyway - I really like Cloud No.9 and it's in my list!
Dessert: French apple tart (with the really really thinly sliced apple) with lots of thick cream ;D
Island: in the stream!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Number 5 I think or it could be 6. Someones already mentioned the Davies bros, so I'll not mention Waterloo Sunset, Autumn Almanac or Goldhawk Road. God I was 19ish What I will mention is: Aint no sunshine now your gone. Again many many versions I'm torn between Al Green and Bill Withers There is also an interesting version, NOT for the faint hearted or purist, by RUN-DMC, Its part of the soundtrack from a film called Exit Wounds. Before you rush off to find it. WARNING very very strong language. Banoffee Farne, you can see I'm well travelled, nothing like the islands we live on How do you turn a duck into a soul singer? Put it in the microwave until its bill withers.

Right. My list is now up to date! Of course, there are still many gaps (this was supposed to be a leisurely stroll after all!), but if anyone wants a copy and feel they can trust me with their emain address I can send it them.
In the meantime keep them coming (in your own time of course!)
p.s. Plocket - I now have all 10 from you, but don't stop there!

And now for my number 8. surprised no-one else has mentioned her yet, although she may be a bit of an aquired taste.
It's Kate Bush with Wuthering Heights. Why? like so many of the others it just grabbed my when I first heard it as being so original!
Pud - Black pudding
Island - Villingili

I've still got a bit of catching up to do, so here's another one from me - anyone else remember Japan? - they were my favourite band for ages - best known for Ghosts, but I'm going to choose the track Despair from the Quiet Life album. It's arty & pretentious and bleak & depressing and I love it - really cheers me up I think it would go well with a slice of coffee and walnut cake and a visit to Iceland ...

Tig just noticed you mentioned it, was going to do it anyway so here it is.
Number 8? I think.
A song from a band that burned very bright for a short period. One of the few bands where the individuals outshone the whole. Hence the short life ending in an implosion.
If you look this track up on U Tube, you need the farewell concert Albert hall 1968. I'm in the crowd, you cant miss me. (getting old now in me 20's)
The track is "Sunshine of your life"
The group is Cream.
desert Baked Alaska
Island Barra, 6 entertaining hours on ferry from Oban!!
If you locate it on U Tube, no prizes for what Ginger is on apart from the stool. How he ever managed to play I'll never know. Clapton looks positively babyish!

Only posted one so far so I've loads of catching up to do and in no particular order:
Enya - Salmon in the Stream (was our wedding 'tune'). Uilean pipes major in this and it is heart wrenching. I think so, anyway
George Micheal - You have been loved. (Simply because it makes me cry)
Edith Piaf - No Regrets (One of my dad's favourites)
Eva Cassidy - Somewhere over the rainbow (full of longing)
Michael Jackson - Off the wall (fabulous dance track)
Bryan Ferry - 2HB (echoes of my 'cool' days)
Pink Floyd - Great Gig in the Sky (totally, totally out there, and sooooo cool)
Chicago - If you leave me now (failed first, and madly, madly passionate, love and we left each other)
Annie Lennox - Why? (just because it's the ultimate question)
Favourite dessert to go with all of them: sticky toffee pudding with lashings of hot custard
Favourite island: not an island, but a peninsula - Knoydart

No 4 on my all time top ten list is IMHO an absolute classic. Ultravox - "Vienna" I could've had any one of several Ultravox tracks as they were one of my favourite bands and did so many good songs. I've gone for this one simply because it reminds me of nights spent morosely sitting in my bedroom trying to be "moody and interesting" while I played this over and over ! Midge Ure's soaring vocals at their very best. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=X3OaIsqtG64FA x

I'm going to choose an Ultravox song but I haven't decided which one yet. Possibly also one of Midge Ure's non-Ultravox ones, but I think that probably won't make the top 10 Still thinking about my other 6. I know what 5 of them are and I have no trouble choosing 6 more desserts ;D but matching the songs to the desserts, and thinking of 6 more islands is the tricky bit. Have told R about this thread and I think he's having a nervous breakdown trying to cope with the idea of people choosing only 10 favourite songs. He has so far told me about 50 which would absolutely have to be on his list ... ... he also says he would like a Shania Twain song - any one will do - so long as she is covered with the dessert & he gets to lick it off
