It makes me wonder what reasons they say to authorise days off....I have seen some refused and some ok'ed for the same reasons and both had no previous days off..

A friend asked for time off for her 2 daughters at Easter, it was only 1 day but she was refused, they hadn't had any sick time off either ....their cousin at the same school and going on the same holiday was given the time off as authorised....he had been off school with mumps for 2 weeks the Christmas before.....how does it work?

I noticed the xmas lights are switched on in our village...

They were putting them up in town here today, but not switched on yet. I always think it's a bit off to have the 'C' lights on before Remembrance Sunday.

They're early at it are'nt they. I guess in towns and villages it's all to do with trying to get people spending money.

That's true Lady - I feel most odd in some of the shops where all the decs are up and they have a tree lit - if I were PM I would BAN all things Christmas until the 1st December Easter Cards will be out soon -

I don't think it's to encourage spending in our village lol They're pretty and as much as I love xmas, it's too early.

Some towns round here aren't going to put lights up this year to save money which is quite sad but however much a person loves Christmas I guess there are better uses for all that electricity

I wonder if they will ban some of the houses that go overboard with the most hideous of Christmas lights - their whole house inside, outside, walls, garden and roof are bedecked with bad taste decs I would hate to live next door to one - it would be like living by a fun fair

The GC was taken over with Christmas. They do themes in different areas - silver and white, hot zingy colours, black and turquoise, traditional and so on - something for everyone really.
