Well done Isabella - I had a couple of beauties about 3 years ago - they flowered so well and when I came to empty the tub and put the bulbs in the cellar for winter I found that mice had been at them...

They are stunning flowers aren't they. I bought some as hymenocallis festalis a few years back and planted them in the bottom border, I did get a flower (think I posted on the white thread  ) but not surprisingly they didn't come up again! (or some numpty could have planted something on top of them and sliced the bulbs of course!) x Tig |

They are beautiful flowers, I got some from GWL a few years ago and had them in a pot. Never managed to get them to flower though and the pot got left out last year so they are no more  |

I've bought 9 (3 per pack in Poundland  ) I'm going to put them in pots, never manage to keep them overwinter, so they had better flower this year (I've had a word with them already  ) x Tig |

I got mine out today, and I'm glad I did because they had signs of a bit of fungal growth!!!  Cleaned them off and planted them in two big pots, 6 in each. I was a little confused because when I googled the planting depth some said 5" (13cms), some said twice the height of the bulb, and one site said with the neck just below the surface?  I've gone with the 5" They are in one of the growhouses, just hope the temps don't drop below 10c for too long!!! x Tig |

Think I was just in time Chuckles, it was only on the outer skins, similar to what you sometimes find on ordinary daffs - I rubbed the skins off, and tried not to breath the dusty stuff  x Tig |

They really should say on the packets what the level of difficulty growing these bulbs entails. I bought them thinking, oh they're bulbs, they should be a safe enough bet. |

I managed to get a couple to flower one year LG before I had any idea what I was doing with them, I just put them in a sunny border and up they came! Never saw them again mind you, but then I didn't realise how tender they are. And me, I've put mine into big pots (6 per pot, a bit crowded but they'll be cosy ). Only slightly moist compost until they start to grow, don't want them too wet or they may rot x Tig |

Glad I found this post on Ismene festalis. I bought 4 bulbs from Focus diy for £2.50 not realising they might be difficult to grow. Just looking on the comments on here, I will plant them in a container and try and remember to look after them. The bulbs looks a slightly dusty and mouldy before I've even planted them, so I'll give them a good clean and hope for the best.
