Tig has reminded me on another thread that it's time to take these lovely bulbs in and overwinter them. I thought I'd lost my old ones but found them in a pot behind some others. I'll do what I did last year and bring them into the covered back yard and let them dry out there. They bloomed again for me this year despite the weather being awful. Kept inside until risk of frost had gone and then I let them grow in the pots in a sheltered position. The new ones I bought in pound stretcher did'nt bloom and produced only a couple of inches of leaves before they got eaten by S&S.

I tipped out my Ismene festalis a couple of days ago - they're drying on top of the boiler cupboard now. The 3 original ones have got huge and each one has had a baby bulb!

Smashing Jasmine, a little baby. I've not yet tipped mine out but they're out back. I must do that this week.

I'm glad I got round to mine LG as they were in these useless pots that don't drain very well so the soil was getting slightly smelly. Bulbs are ok - just hope I haven't got any poor little worms drying out on the boiler.

Mine are done for I'm afraid. I tipped them out and the bulbs were mush. Still I got 2 years flowers out of them at least.

It is Jasmine but I'm not surprised after all the rain we had this year. That's the way it goes gardening is full of ups and downs.

I think I'll try these next year, might use up a couple of my surplus pots. I think I'll buy the biggest bulbs I can cos cheap bulbs are often a false economy I've found ( some tiny tulip bulbs from Poundland were my undoing ) do Wyevales sell them?

I got mine from Wyevales Auricula - it was my first time of growing them this year. I was amazed how big the bulbs had got over summer!

Has anyone managed to overwinter Ismene bulbs either planted or dug up and dried off? I put mine in the spare bedroom (they were in a paper bag) and have just discovered them and 3 of the bulbs have crumbled away to dust and one feels like it might be ok. Bought some new ones yesterday after wondering whether to grow them again.

I did manage one overwinter and got them to bloom the next year Jasmine but they rotted after that so 2 years. Worth buying, they were ones I bought from B&Q . The ones I bought from the pound shop did'nt even flower the first year and were weak and a waste of money.

Ohh, I got mine at the local factory outlet shop so they might not be any good. I couldn't find them in any of the local GCs this year Oh well, I got a bag of ismene and 2 bags of gladiolas for £5 so if they are duds I guess it's not much lost.

Ooooh gawd!!! You've just reminded me, I lifted mine and put them in a bag in the front bedroom. I've just been and checked, they were only tiny bulbs as last year was far too wet and cold for them. 8 are viable and have sprouted, I'll pot them up tomorrow. I bought two new bulbs this year for £3, of all places Sainsburys had them. They were really good size bulbs too. I potted them up straight away and at this moment in time they have nearly 30" of lush strappy foliage! They are in the office with me, so I reckon they are enjoying my company. I have never had them grow this tall before, so I'm really hoping for decent flowers, even if they have to stay indoors

Water from the bottom if you can, not too much though, let them get almost dry between waterings, and keep them warm, at least 15c. They originate from Peru and Equador. My buds should be opening tomorrow I reckon!

The leaves will start to grow in cooler conditions, they just won't flower if they don't get enough heat. The more heat they have the better chance of flowers, only once have I got them to perform in the garden and it was one of those very rare 'hot' summers

I got mine to flower in the garden one year as well. They were in pots and it was summer with some rare warm days.
