I bought some cheese with Wasabi (Japanese horesradish) the other day and both OH and I have fallen in love with it. I know that you can buy Wasabi in powder form or as a paste but the only other way I know how to use it is in Sushi which really isn't my thing, or in mashed potatoes. Does anyone know of other ways to use Wasabi?? RF

I think you could stir fry some prawns and add some to spice it up Tig, or any kind of fish really.

Often used with fish I think RF - does it have a similar flavour to ordinary horseradish? I love that

I have to admit that I have seen that "green" cheese often and really didn't fancy the idea but I am really really impressed. The taste is like horseradish but mild and savoury and not a "bite your tongue off" taste.
We have just come back from shopping and I found a tube of it....now to find something to use it with.
Auricula - as I said the taste is very nice and apparently it is often used in vegetarian meals here in Germany.

Bit of a contradiction here, I think... My OH found this in the shop and I didn't look at it but just threw it in the basket....when I got home I realised that a) it was all in English and Japanese and b) it was grated and not a paste or powder but I don't suppose that matters. It says on the side it can be used for sandwiches, hot dogs, sushi, sauces and salad dressings... and it is described as Hot and Spicy... Will try it tonight and let you know Auricula. RF

It's really good Auricula - it is a lovely spicy hot - just as they say - doesn't blow your head off. I had it with cheese and I shall definitely be having it again - very nice indeed. I am going to try it in mashed potato - have been told that it is marvellous.

We went to Lidl today and I saw these... There was an "Asia" week last week and these crisps were part of the products....I don't think they will be having them again as from the 3 massive boxes with (we reckoned) about 50 packets of crisps in each box, only 4 packets had been taken... I actually am not sure if I feel right eating green crisps.... RF

Went to another little town today and managed to get a tube of Wasabi...very green isn't it Auricula??
How green do we want the mashed spuds....saw red mash recently - beetroot juice in them...apparently tasted very good but the colour made my stomach lurch..

I'm quite tempted reading all these posts but I'm not sure how green mash would go down especially if you are smallish and fussy! It's only our perceptions though isn't it. If you didn't see the colour you would just enjoy the taste.

Oddly enough the grated Wasabi that I have isn't green really and one sachet really is fantastic - even for kids...I still have to try the paste though - pure green mash could be a great idea for kids and turn them off for life....dunno...
Sort of a Halloween mashed spuds - same as beetroot juice mashed spuds....dracula....oooooo

I added it this lunchtime to the mashed tatties and "yes" there is a green tinge....this is with about one inch of paste....absolutely wonderful taste though and the gravy (from beef rouladen) made it even better in our opinion. RF

I have just gone slightly overboard with Wasbai et al...
I toasted a piece of bread then rubbed garlic over it, loads of butter, slice of cheese, thinly sliced onions and the rest of the garlic, very thinly sliced, salt and pepper...and a handful of the Wasabi chips which are lovely Hot and spicy..... Oh yes, there was a hard boiled egg left over so I halved it and spread some Wasabi on each half....luverly..
OH has asked where I am sleeping tonight!!!

Know what you mean - my OH loves Tabasco and we were out one cold winter day and he fancied a soup - puts loads of Tabasco in it and cried all the way through eating it....
He said that it was lovely - I think it was the next morning that made him think that he might have used a little tooooo much though!!
