I remember you saying about the name Geranium! I was also going to get you some seeds but one gave up the ghost and the other didn't flower. There's always next year I suppose...

That is my thought for the moment Geranium! If I have learnt nothing else over the past few weeks it is that you need nothing but to be healthy and happy...or in the absence of healthy...happy Friends help at times like these.

I'm still not sure what this one is - originally we plumped for Muldoon, but this year the leaves look different, unless it is a crossed seedling that grew, I'll swear I removed all the seeds from every geranium last year, but there are zillions of babies popping up I've not a clue Tig but its a lovely colour and that photo gets a

This is more a spot the difference question Here's a clump of a lovely white one that I got at a plant sale & have had for years, I identified it on google as Kashmir White And this is the first flower on Derrick Cook The light in the photo's is a bit different but in real life they look exactly the same apart from the leaves, Derrick is very pretty but I'm glad I only got one from Stephen Roff rather than three from Hayloft

I've found that with Geraniums, they often look very similar. Both are lovely 'tho Jilly the close up one looks like it has more cup shaped flowers.

My Derrick Cook has flowered Jilly and it has the biggest flowers of any geranium I've ever seen!

It's certainly lovely Jasmine, I'm just thinking that either my Kashmir White isn't plain Kashmir White after all, or as it's growing under a Rose, it's been getting a hefty dose or manure

I grew this from seed, but I've misplaced the label. It's quite tall with furry buds and the flower is about 2" across This caught me by surprise in the front garden, another un-named one from Poundland a few years ago ... and I have my first flower on Dusky Crug (at least one I know , thanks Ladygardener) - it is more pink than it came out in the photo, think there was too much sunshine!

Apart from looking like it's definitely a pratense of some sort I don't know about the first one, except it's a beauty, does it set seed do you think . It could possible be a self seeder from Splish Splash, I've got these & I've got no idea from where, except that Mrs KC & Splish Splash are very nearby. My Dusty Crug has been having a major sulk since LG sent it to me, but I've moved it to the new alpine bed & it seems a lot happier there.

The leaves on that are very similar to splish splash, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the cluster open with signs of 'splashes', although I read it can self-seed white, blue or true I think I've found the name of my first one, Geranium sent me some seeds a while back of g. ibericum subsp. jubatum White Zigana It obviously does set seed Jilly - I'll save some. Whilst 'investigating' what it could be I also think I've identified another one I grew from seed nearby, which is in bud but not yet flowering, as Geranium pratense 'plenum album' - now I can't wait for the buds to open. Both are in the wrong place, I can't believe I didn't check how tall they grow before I planted them out

We've all done that Tig . My Splish Splash and Mrs KC have lots of buds on them, the warm weather has spurned them on. I've cut Bill Wallis right back as most of the flowers were over. I'm hoping it'll regrow but at the moment it's letting some light into the border. Jilly my Dusky Crug seems to like it quite dry so should be happy in your alpine bed. Tig glad yours has done well for you, it's a nice little one for front of border as it stays quite small. I've got no buds on mine yet.

I've had a sowing frenzy this week and came across 4 lots of some saved hardy geranium seeds collected from a friends garden last year. In typical Chuckles style I labelled them with her name and Dark Leaf, Pink, Pink Veined and Blue ? ;D If anyone has tips on sowing them that would be good never done them before. I also found a pot in the GH which has what looks like a baby geranium that I've got from god knows were, Its very tiny and has lovely burgundy red leaves. I'd like to be able to ID it sometime. Well 2yrs and 5 months on its flowered and its not Geranium maculatum Elizabeth Ann as Tig thought because she is pink and mine is a lilac/pale purple colour Any ideas anyone ??

I've got one with similar foliage, it's not flowered yet though. Geranium pratense Black Beauty?

I would say the same Chuckles - Geranium pratense Black Beauty. I had it and the minus20C winter 2/3 years ago snuffed it although it shouldn't have done but it was still very small... RF

Calling Geranium and any other experts. I have a bed containing only hardy geraniums. If I cut them back nowish, how long will the bed look bareish / scalpedish/ uninterestingish ( the bed is outside the back door)? Or, should I just leave the tangled foliage as it is - at least it's greenish? Fankoo

Geranium pratense Black Beauty will do nicely, its been a long wait but I love it, thanks Tig and RosefriendI've cut a very large clump of one of mine back this afternoon Auricula if you are careful and follow the old flower stems back you will see new leaves, so remove old stems and old leaves and it should look fine.

Even G. x magificum looks better because it does produce new leaves, as Chuckles said.

It could be that one - growing height 6"-8"? Shade causes the foliage to be greener? It looks very similar to my Black Beauty though and comparing the pics online I can't really see what the difference is between them!
