I thought I'd start a new thread in the hope of attracting some expert attention Until they flower I don't have any chance of identifying my 'mystery' geraniums (which apart from Splish Splash all mine are a mystery to me ) These are the leaves of one I have in the front garden taken today, it isn't very happy there so perhaps it is a type that prefers more moisture than it gets at present? I shall post photos of any flowers I get on it next year! x Tig

Hi Tig - are you sure it's not a herbaceous one? I have several that vanish for the winter. Having said that, it doesn't look like one of those...I have some that prefer dryer conditions, but haven't come across any that like it damper. I think you may be right - we'll have to wait for flowers. Oh - I meant to ask you - is it a new plant? Did you plant it or is it a seedling?

In my hurry to fill gaps last year after remodelling a border I bought lots of bare rooted perennials including one pink and one blue geranium - they were grown on over winter and planted out spring 2010, had one flower on each but didn't get a photo of either of them. And when I went in search today I can only find one They could be anything, probably the cheapest, most common geraniums known It is in dappled shade, perhaps it doesn't like that? x Tig

That rules out G. pratense, then. Why do we always fall for those beautiful adverts? I said 'Never again' to T&M, yet still ordered a Coreopsis collection from them which arrived far too late and the plants were minute and feeble.

I'm in the same boat as Jilly. I ordered the midnight blue and got a purple flowering one instead similar to Jilly's. From T&M

Hi Jilly and LG - I think it might be G. 'Brookside'. Is this the one, do you think?

Geranium I'm no expert so I can't honestly tell. I do have 2 close up pics of mine on page 8 of my thread if you'd be kind enough to look there for me. I don't know how to post a pic from there to here and PB won't let me post any at the moment.

Hi LG - being new around here, I managed to find Jilly's garden, but not yours yet. Could you please point me to your thread? The geranium in Jilly's garden certainly looks like 'Brookside' to me.

I don't know how to do links but it's on the same page as everyone's own garden thread. My garden/allotment where your own is. Mine is down the page. It does take a bit of time to get to know where everything is. ;D I'll try to see if I can post a pic here.

Not a problem. Being new, I'm still finding my way round. Any pointers are helpful! ;D How come Jilly has a link to a whole set of photos? I clicked on 'Jilly's Garden' at the bottom of her post and found them. Does anyone else have a link?

Sorry I didn't answer sooner Geranium, I wasn't on hear much yesterday. Thanks for naming my mystery Geranium it does look very much like your close up of Brookside, in fact I think Brookside was another one you could choose as part of the offer I ordered. As to my garden link, I have to thank RF for that i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif . My OH has his own website for digital art & he has given some of that space to me to load my pics from. Photobucket was being a bit of a pain at the time. I'm not a very good photographer so I take loads more pics than I put on here, so RF kindly helped me create a link so that anyone who wanted to see more could do so. Jillyx

Thanks for explaining, Jilly. I enjoyed looking at your photos! ;D I was pleased that I managed to ID your 'mystery' geranium. Shame I can't help Tig yet - we don't have much option until hers flower. It seems a long time ahead!

I've had a sowing frenzy this week and came across 4 lots of some saved hardy geranium seeds collected from a friends garden last year. In typical Chuckles style I labelled them with her name and Dark Leaf, Pink, Pink Veined and Blue ? ;D If anyone has tips on sowing them that would be good never done them before. I also found a pot in the GH which has what looks like a baby geranium that I've got from god knows were, Its very tiny and has lovely burgundy red leaves. I'd like to be able to ID it sometime.

I have found that geraniums like a fair bit of cold to germinate Chuckles, well at least Splish Splash, Mrs Kendall Clark & pratense do All of these I have got to germinate after they have sat frozen in a pot for a few months - and it worked for Jasmines Splish Splash too I wonder how many dark leaved ones there are? May have to wait for flowers to get a good ID, lovely foliage though x Tig

I've got some Splish Splash germinated but they're very leggy. I think I'll have to put them outside into the mini growhouse. Yours look good Missy.

Ooooh I hope mine is Elizabeth Ann, lovely compact plant isn't it, thanks Tig. As you say "May have to wait for flowers to get a good ID" It is rather pretty Jasmine, the leaf colour is as the photo. Lovely seedlings Missy.
Now, did you lot surface sow the seed or cover and did you use compo or compo mixed or what. Sorry so many questions ;D

My compost is that one that comes as disks.....I just sprinkled them on top and covered with a fine sprinkle of compost and left them outside and to their own devices.
LG mine have never been in the GH they are outside on the patio.

I just use mpc, rough up the surface so there are some little pockets, drop the seeds in and firm back down, probably no more that an eighth of an inch covering them. They don't seem to be too fussy, just as long as they get well chilled x Tig
