My Dahalia seedlings are doing well. The tubers have loads of leaves now and I'm going to pinch them out this weekend to encourage bushy plants.

Yesterday I transplanted my sprouted tubers of dwarf dahlias into their pots and put them outside ( with slug pellets). My seedlings of Bishop's Children are coming along slowly, but still only have 2 or 3 sets of leaves....wish they'd get a move on ;D

I've moved some of mine from the covered back to the mini growhouse. I'll harden them off over the next couple of weeks before planting out. It looks like the cuttings I've made have taken ok. My seedlings are really small too Auricula, way behind the tubers but that's ok, they'll come on when we get some warm weather hopefully.

It's always good when you use mail order and find a good site. We'll look forward to seeing some nice pics later in the season. They've made a real comeback have Dahalia. Thhey're such good doers.

I forgot to say that my dahlia cuttings from Winchester Growers came yesterday - they were unavailable last year and I was told I could have a credit note or wait til this year and chose a free dahlia so I waited. I've got Thomas Edison (got plenty of those now!), Hillcrest Royal and my free one is Summer Night. The cuttings look bigger and stronger than last years.

I had a mammoth potting up, potting on day yesterdeay. Discarded a few cuttings that had not rooted or looked a bit sad. Thats it for taking cuttings this year. I did a "head count" and I have 140 plants i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/shocked.gif ....and I've still a small order to come from Halls. Goodness knows where they will go

Wow that's a lot of Dahlia Amber. ;D I've had to discard several cuttings I'd made too. They just were'nt going to make it I'm afraid.

Winchester Growers must be busy, their site is awash with delivery lorries, their yard is full of caravans, and nearby Morrisons is full of their eastern European workers trying to find Latvian bread ;D ;D The dahlias in their National Collection field are growing really well and their greenhouses seem full to bursting with cuttings and small plants...............wonder if they have a hole in their fence??

Or you could tunnel in...might be less noticeable! ;D I've potted up my cuttings and they are definitely bigger than last year and I've had an earlier delivery too - it was May last year.

My Bishops Children and other Dahlia are still at the seedling stage but my tubers are well ready for planting out. Trouble is I have no idea where they're going to go.

My tubers are in pots - my Bishop's children will fill gaps in the borders

What are 'gaps' Auricula? ;D I'm going to have to 'shoe-horn' all my dahlias in come next month, whose fault is it I've gone a bit OTT with my buying, sowing and growing strategy? x Tig

Yours... and only yours Tig I 'll probably have to chuck away some seedlings for lack of room, but I'll find space for the dahlias if I have to dig up more grass!! ;D ;D
