I have a bad habit of using pots that I've sown seeds in and nothing germinates - to sow more seeds in This has grown in a pot I re-used for some alstroemeria seeds from Auricula - it isn't an alstroemeria - but any ideas what it could be? I sow tree/shrub seeds and this could be something lovely, or just another weed Not the best pics I'm afraid, but the stems are red and the leaves bright green, the stems have little red spikes at the leaf joints .... and from above Any suggestions x Tig

I wouldn't mind a cheery cherry Andy ;D
Although if it is, I didn't sow it!!!

Perhaps it's a present from the birds. I do that with my pots, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I'm going to try and get a better photo of it. I've had a look at cherry seedlings online and it doesn't look the same. The edges of the leaves are tinged with red, I think it is something 'nice' x Tig

Just been having a "google" as I seem to have seen this before - are you sure it is a perennial?? Could it be some kind of Campion (Silene) perhaps.

Rather a nice find that Jilly, if it came from me I haven't missed it ;D It will be much happier in your neck of the woods anyway You've got two growing there, I'd split them and plant them both out now while the soil is still warm. They don't do well in pots if we get hard frosts (as I've found out over the years ) x Tig

Just looking for this and wondered if those cordylines grew for you Jilly? I should know what this is, as I bought it - but it didn't have a label and it wasn't what I originally thought it was - anyone recognise it please? ;D x Tig

Yay - thanks Pam - I knew it began with 's' but it was lost in the depths of my almost non-existent memory Tig

Schizanthus definately....we used to grow loads of them in pots at our nursery for decorating civic functions etc. Not seen one for ages but absolutely love em. Wonder if it's too late to get some seed in ?

S'mee again ;D This is the plant I bought today, which according to the label was silene acaulis pedunculata, however it doesn't look anything like the images I got from google. So anyone got any suggestions what it could be? x Tig

It reminds me of some kind of Lychnis...my last Lychnis arkwrightii 'Vesuvius' looked a bit like that - it wasn't as dark as it was supposed it be....

Hmmm, my Vesuvius was hairier and the leaves were more spread out on the stems What's the betting it turns out to be something invasive!!! x Tig
