It’s tiny Rosefriend, I hope it is a lavatera I first noticed the pink bud on about 6 inch stem on Saturday , don’t know where it has come from but it’s very welcome, only thing is the flower is bigger than I remember seeing before.

I have a bad habit of using pots that I've sown seeds in and nothing germinates - to sow more seeds in This has grown in a pot I re-used for some alstroemeria seeds from Auricula - it isn't an alstroemeria - but any ideas what it could be? I sow tree/shrub seeds and this could be something lovely, or just another weed Not the best pics I'm afraid, but the stems are red and the leaves bright green, the stems have little red spikes at the leaf joints .... and from above Any suggestions x Tig

Can't see any photo Jasmine, and from whatever grew back in 2011 I haven't a clue

Excuse that Tig! I found some seeds in the Tower moat from a plant I couldn't identify but as much as my little sister and I faffed we couldn't post on here on my phone. I'll post the plant and seed case tomorrow when I've caught up with myself!

maggy , Rosefriend , Ladygardener , Tig , Auricula OK - now I know what I'm doing! These are the seeds and the seedhead, I have never seen anything quite like the little 'button' in the paper case and couldn't make out what the plant was.

Oh now that has me stumped Jasmine. It's so difficult to tell without seeing the leaves as well, I tried with my plant identifier but it came up with no plant found.

There were no leaves left Ladygardener, just stalks and those papery seed cases which were quite hard to peel open.

Thanks Rosefriend and Tig! Looks spot on Tig and makes sense. There was lavatera in the planting and it was very obvious from the planting that some parts of the moat were far more protected by the walls of the Tower so the flowers were at different stages.

Well done Tig, glad you got it identified Jasmine. Are you going to sow the seeds? it would be lovely if you got a plant from them to remind you of your visit.

Yes I am Ladygardener, I saw white and pink lavatera in the moat so it will be a surprise which one it is!

I wonder if these little seedlings might be from the Hellebore they're growing beside. Is it too soon to tell Tig? They could also be weeds...

They are all hellebore seedlings LG. Some may not survive as they are quite crowded there and it is difficult to lift them at that stage without disturbing the parent plants roots & the stems of the seedlings often snap. Once one proper leaf opens you may be able to tease some out and pot them up. Always a surprise what you get if you choose to grow them on.

Thanks very much Tig, I'll lift some of them for sure in a few days after the weather improves and grow them on.
