On Tuesday we went to a Living Advent Calendar - my first ever and I was very impressed...
A film has been made of the Entente Florale and we were invited to the Premier and I got a mail from Olaf saying that he would pick us up but we had to go to the Living Advent Calender beforehand...OK....right...
We were picked up and he explained what it was all about...in Doetlingen 24 families and the church each take it in turn to represent a day in the advent calender...
We went to Day 18 organized by a family Spille. Lovely large house, tastefully decorated from outside with Christmas decs and lovely candles everywhere...the double garage doors were open to help with the light (and if it rained) and there was mulled wine and apple punch warming up.... We sang carole's outside - one or two funny Christmas stories, an Our father was said and a blessing, - and then a warming mulled wine and home made biscuits, oranges and nibbles...
I have to say it was a wonderful half an hour and this is done each advent evening by another family. Day 24 is in the church before everyone goes home to celebrate with their families...
A wonderful idea for a village....it was lovely to be invited as an outsider!!

It was good - we had a profi photographer from the word go when we started - we know him and got so used to him walking around with his camera we took no notice off him - he got some good shots and he made a good film...nearly 2 hours...

Sound like a lovely evening RF - Doetlingen has obviously adopted you and OH LG I think Jennys floral decoration is beautifully done, so well balanced, superb and Pam, great job on the door hanging as usual, have you used variegated holly with some yew twigs in it? I've got all the presents to wrap, but I found three decorative Christmas Stocking that I'd bought in the sales after last Xmas, so the Grandkids will get one each, I'm going to get some fruit and nuts to put in them tomorrow, they'll be like what I had as a child - bet they'll think I'm barking ;D x Tig

I wondered if it was Pam. The odd Christmas tree branch would be a useful thing for florists to sell at this time of the year for folk who don't have real trees. You used a really festive combination of things.

I thought it was time for a Christmas thread for those of us that love all things Christmassy even if it is a while to go!
Not long to go now - the schools round here break up today!

Rf, will you be going to any more of the Advent 'tour'? No Geranium, unfortunately not. OH cannot see the end of his nose in the dark these days and doesn't drive and I don't drive (we tend to hibernate in winter) so if we want/need to go anywhere in an evening we are dependant on someone picking us up...
