How lovely Jasmine. I must take a good look at my daffs later on today. Interestingly, I planted 3 peach coloured Hyacinth in a container and only 2 of them have come up, wonder what happened to the other one.

Maybe it's a well fed mouse LG! Although hyacinth bulbs are poisonous aren't they - or at least have something irritating in them I am admitting defeat and getting poison tomorrow - there is a bloomin' great hole outside the backdoor - more rat size than mouse

B&Q have a huge range of some new kind of rat/mouse poision in red and black packaging. You can buy anything from humane traps to very strong poisioned bait.

Just taken a walk down the garden, Quite a few Iris are out & I've spotted Winter Aconites in a couple of places, (not in as many places as I planted them unfortunately ) & quite a few Snowdrops are showing colour, in fact I must pop out with the camera whilst the sun is shining.

What's up with aconites - where do they go? It was interesting that the Which trials had trouble with them Jilly. I took some pictures today! These are the first daffodil buds in my garden - January Gold. If the sun keeps shining like today it shouldn't be long til they open! Galanthus John Gray - I love this snowdrop!

OH removed the gate again yesterday - no flooding this time, thanks, ladies. Jasmine - we've had rat trouble in our garden in the past, so we have a rat trap tucked away in case we get any more. I hate them! They give me the shudders. My early daffodils are almost in bloom (Rjinveldt's Early) - I thought they might be out by now. Just another week or so, I hope. But I do have Aconites poking their little heads through the soil - thanks to Jilly! Yes, they've come up. Not only that, but my Pulmonarias are just starting to open their flowers, and amazingly, my Chaenomeles is in bloom!

They really are like little drops Jasmine, lovely. Hopefully you'll get a pic of those lovely daffs when they open. You're way ahead of me that's for sure. Well done getting the Aconites to bloom Geranium. It'll be weeks before my Pulmonaria even think of blooming. I do really like them too.

Thank you for the nom Ladygardener and well done with the aconites Geranium. I think aconites could become a challenge - I might get some and see if they come back for me!

Eranthis hiemalis grow very well for us here. They are just beginning to open and they do self seed around. If you get the plants and try them from seed, you need to take it from them when it is still green and sow immediately. It has a very short life span. Bulbs sold in G/C's are dead so only buy them growing.

What a welcome sight on a cold morning I'm so pleased the Aconties have taken off for you Geranium, as owdboggy says I think they establish so much better if they're fresh. I'll get a clump for you when I next go to Mum's Jasmine, don't worry she's got plenty, all hers self seed, last year they were even trying to take over the lawn I've got little yellow dots coming up too The hundreds of new Iris that I bought last year haven't started yet, but some of last years Katherine Hodgkin have been out for about a week, they look a lot better now I've cut the surrounding foliage back & got some slug pellets down. Hellebores are coming out or have got big buds, this is one of the ones from the Hayloft collection we got last year.

Such a lovely colour Jilly, I'm so glad you've taken pics of them. Hellibore are something I don't grow but I like to admire them in other folks gardens. They look so delicate and beautiful Jilly. I have several types but not KH.

Photo of the month is going to be tricky again next time, those photos are all so lovely. I remember thinking Winter was going to last so long and the garden was going to be so bare for ages, and now the colour is starting to dot around, light at the end of the tunnel! We have been lucky with the weather here really. Jilly for your Hellebore

It's so lovely to see all the early things coming through isn't it theinsidegardener, another one of the joys of gardening you've got to look forward too, it's great to have something that will put a smile on your face at the end of January Thanks for the noms folks, Tig, if I've not mixed the labels up (which frankly is always a possibility ) I think the Hellebore is Double Ellen Red, but looking on Hayloft she's meant to be plain not spotty , I like spotty though
