My Iris buying madness in the Autumn is really starting to pay of now, as there are more coming out every day. Lady Beatrix Stanley George Wild Violets coming out too on the left. Most of the early Snowdrops are out now, thanks to Jasmine & my Mum I've now got early & late Snowdrops (without going anywhere near e-bay )

The ultimate Valentine's gift... www.evolution-plants.com/valentines.php...but only if you love snowdrops I guess! I've been looking for the auction on Ebay but haven't found it yet. Have signed up for Evolutions newletter and free hellebore and snowdrop book though! The snowdrop went for £1602 in the end and has a lovely story behind it's purchase and new name. The link is to Evolution Plants FB page and I don't think you have to have a FB account to read the link.

Such a simple and lovely story and what a good idea Jasmine although it's an awful lot of money is'nt it Jasmine. I think it's lovely to have a plant or shrub or something like that in memory of a loved one.

There's been an interesting debate on the snowdrop forum I lurk on Ladygardener - some folk say it has attracted attention to the value of snowdrops and others are happy the plant hunter chappy who sold it has had lots of advertising for his nursery and ventures. The other interesting thing is that although he was selling the right to name the plant there isn't any way of registering a snowdrop in this country apparently so it's only a name that the nursery can use. I'm intrigued about how any snowdrops got their names now. I bought Galanthus Dotty off Ebay last year and was told it was the sellers own name for the snowdrop and not a registered one. Still, it's a lovely sentiment - I'd expected it to be bought by a young man for his girlfriend or wife!!! I was waiting for OH to present me with Galanthus Jasmine - lucky I wasn't holding my breath!

You'd be afraid to put it out in the garden 'tho Jasmine. Interesting about how the names are registered.

Actually I saw them first when we had snow and the white with the yellow looked lovely - I'll get Olaf to take a pic if I can. The Potato Pope - here is the link - just read to the end of the page - only a couple of posts. gardenworld.proboards.com/post/506342/threadRF

They'r smashing Rosefriend. Does Olaf grow them then? Olaf's garden is just full of rare plants (really rare) - his passions are Hellebores, Galanthus and Sempervivum but he has rarities all over. He has a dream of a yellow Magnolie that smells so wonderful - Dutchy and I fell in love with it when we saw it last June. In 2016 he has been invited to go on a sort of expedition to China to collect plants and lots of rare things....lucky man!! RF

Oh I love the double yellow one Rosefriend, it's odd though, I've bought pots of flowering double snowdrops many times, but they never seem to come back for me the next year like the single ones do Managed to catch a few Crocus fully out when there was a bit of sunshine at the weekend. And the old faithful Daphne is fully out and smelling gorgeous in the sunshine.

The Washfield Warham Snowdrops kindly sent to me by Jasmine. I can see the 2nd little flowers peeping through as well, I've never known a Snowdrop to produce 2 flowers. Beautiful, can't wait until they open up. They're so much taller than the regular Snowdrops.

I can't make my mind up on the yellow snowdrop, it's a bit like you were saying about the coloured daffs RF, there is sort of a mental expectation of what a plant should look like. Nice bit of sunshine meant the crocus were full on today And lots of pollen wafting around off the contorted hazel

Caught one mole so far and that seems to have stopped the damage to one big central island bed.
