Knew this would be a magnet for you, Jenny! I'm just beginning to grasp this photo lark, don't think I can explain to anyone else yet though. Please apologise to Didi for calling her "he" before, should have known someone so elegant would be a girl.
It is difficult to tell though, with Afghans!

Jennywren and Toonia - your dogs are absolutely beautiful! You lucky things. I have a wonderful black Spaniel cross who has the nicest temper in the world but is prone to feeling a bit sad, mainly when all the kids are "playing" with him although chuck a stick/ball for him and he'll love you forever. I really love dogs but I can't have another as my fellow would expire from jealousy. He is good friends with my cats but loves my little pygmy goat Freddie as he was bottle fed in my house and the dog used to look after him.

Jenny, you have to look on the other boards about photos but on photobucket you can reduce the image by clicking on "edit" -above the photo -and I reduce to 25% which seems agood size. I click on the third link they give, can't remember what it's called now!

Oh well done! At least you can do it. I tried to post my garden pics, they came out wrong, no body even commented, probably nobody cared, so having made a total prat of myself - I'm completely giving up! I shall keep myself to myself and stop trying to be clever with these poxy machines! I think I may retire from computers altogether. Night night.

Nooo! 4pygs, don't give up, it can be a maddening process, particularly as (like most things technical, I find) those that write the instructions assume too much! I use putfile.com (as per christiebhoy). This works for me:
1) log in to putfile 2) go to "my files" 3) click "choose file", select the pic (from your desktop or wherever it is) it should be a .jpg file prepared for the web (cos it loads quicker) 4) its icon will appear alongside the "choose" button 5) click "image" 6) give it a title and category if you wish, but it's not neccessary 7) click "upload" and the pic will appear at the bottom of the page 8) copy the URL 9) paste it into your posting here
If I can do it, it must be straightforward, but if you do this and it lets you down send me a message either through this thread or the Personal Message facility, and I'll do what I can.
OM.

The Bed incident Before he became the Pongster ( the name on his passport is César, but he's always had a nickname which describes what he's doing at any particular moment) the dog used to sleep on our bed. I was against but outvoted 2-1. One morning I woke up, sensing something was not quite right, there was panting going on and it certainly wasn't me or the OH. César had tried to get off the bed but through the bars at the end and got stuck halfway. His front half was on the floor and the back on the bed and he was firmly stuck. He'd already had heart problems so was having trouble breathing due to the constriction on his chest. Picture the scene -early morning, both of us stark naked and dog in panic mode! I told the OH to get the steps (this is getting REALLY embarrassing now, but OH had made steps so César could still get on the bed when he lost his spring) and this eased the pressure. Then we had to decide what to do next. Send for the fire brigade? Too embarrassing and would they come out for a dog stuck in a bed? Get the farmer? We were already the laughing stock of the village after the Snooker Table Incident -another story -would we ever live it down? So I sent OH off to his workshop telling him to "get tools". He came back with a very ancient rusty saw which used to belong to my dad, a hammer and the loppers! ? Anyway, by a combination of brute strength and perseverence the OH managed to remove one of the bars, César jumped down, shook himself and got on with his day as normal! The pic shows the scene of the crime afterwards - you can just see the missing bar!

I'm back! Thrown a hissy fit, kicked a wall, and feel better. Could NOT get daughter to go to sleep. Actually everything's going wrong - cars, rats, people, rats, money, rats and the universe. I think I ne-e-e-ed to garden but I can't as it's the school holidays, I have to babysit granddaughter on the days I'm not working, my garden looks awful. Sigh. Roll on Autumn. (And I don't think my way of gardening is the same as most people's anyway. Having looked at all the amazingly tidy pics, I think anybody who viewed mine was maybe pushed to find something nice to say!).
Never mind Tomorrow's another day, and surely I can't have another as horrid as today.

Don't give up 4p! I've now got two accounts, one Photobucket and the other putfile. I'm finding the first easier if you want the photo to appear in your post and the latter for a link. I think I've got it sussed now but it's taken at least two weeks! You' re either cyber minded or not but you'll get there. Be like Scarlet O'Hara and think about it tomorrow! Good night xx

Hi everyone I am a cat person but also a dog person and I think those pics are all great to see. Sadly I didn't have a digital camera or a computer during the lives of all our dogs so have very sparce mementos. Still chuckling over the bed incident and can't wait for the snooker table story. We have had 2 Yorkies ( one extremely vicious and a rescue dog ). ex breeding bitch labrador, 2 rescued white poodles and black poodle inherited from a good friend who died. There's nothing to compare to the welcome a dog will give you and I really miss it, but OH and I feel it wouldn't be fair to give a dog a home as we are ''getting on a bit''...so now I can enjoy your stories instead.
Wx
PS I am typing B R E E D I N G B I T CH..labrador but the message changes it to pregant dog ..how strange, but doesn't have the same ring to it.

I am up early today and what a hoot reading about Toonia's bed incident. I didnt like to confess earlier that my dog sleeps on my bed - she also has her own "bedroom" - need big room to house the grooming table and other palarver needed for Afghans
And Chickadeedeedee what lovely dogs but what are you doing up at 3.am ?
This post could go on for every already planning which photos to post of my other Afghans now I know how to do it - brag brag brag
Only took ME 3 HOURS - feel so sorry for those still at it but the problem with posting photos is that is just so easy and we tend to think it is going to be hard
You will get there in the end just have to keep trying

ok picture posters, reviewing the above, I find I've committed the same sin I accused others of... there's a couple of stages BEFORE you try to post that it's worth bearing in mind if you're having trouble: I can only speak of Photoshop, cos that's what I use.
Pics make very big 'files', use a lot of space and pics fresh from the camera may need to be be prepared for uploading:
Resize by cropping unwanted 'border' material so what you see is what you want.
Resize to say 10cm across: 'image size'
Go to 'file' and the 'save for web' option: this optimises the quality while reducing file size.
Leave the pic where you can find it easily.
Then follow 1,2,3 etc...

Here he is again, this time drinking from the pond. And yes, he has been in it for tummy cooling purposes. Why do dogs prefer to drink from anything BUT their water bowls? Céz reserves his for washing his beard and ears. Your woofers look very smart C3D! Dogs don't have problems with cats in general, maybe it's just terriers who chase them! I think we're all doing very well with photos. Considering none of us is a teenager we've learnt how to cope with computers, digital cameras, mobile phones etc and it's not THAT long that they've been around. Oldmoley, do you think it makes any difference what make of camera you have and the software you use for downloading your personal files?

I can't see any of the pictures. Why?
I like dogs and Possum is desperate to have one so I've promised to start working on OH to get the rest of the boundary fenced and let her have one. It will take a while. I'd like a bearded collie. She will take almost anything, the main criteria being able to get it in the bath. She likes bathing dogs. Weird child.
I guess a border collie would be best as Possum also loves obedience training and fancies the agility stuff. One of my friends has a daughter who was agility champion of Belgium for some years, has won at Crufts and travelled the world representing Belgium. Loads of good advice on tap then. I just worry about what the cats, especially thehead case, will say when a new dog treats them like sheep and starts rounding them up.

I find Yahoo easiest to use for photo loading. Photobucket boggled me completely and I haven't tried anything else.
