Boyf had to have his Labrador put down last week. He was very old and his back legs had gone very weak so he couldn't move, so it was for the best. He was a bit upset as he'd had that dog for a large part of his life. Second dog in a year after his Yorkie had an aggressive cancer.

Since jlottie deleted her posts this makes me look seriously callous and nasty about boyf's dog's sad demise. There is a post missing here about a naughty dog! Ho ho ho! He looks a bit fed up with it though! Is he getting easier to cope with now? Hope so. Years ago my sister bought a Dulux dog (she's the rich one...) and he was so badly behaved she took him to dog training classes - he used to bite her and was a nightmare on a lead. It happened to coincide with a visit from me so I went along to their 1st class and I have to say it was one of the funniest hour's ever! My sister is a gentle soul and has a very quiet voice so she was trying desperately hard to sound authoritative - deep, gruff and shouting. The puppy took fright at this new tough Val and skedaddled around the other dogs like a lunatic - all the leads, chairs, owners got all tangled and I sat and howled. Fortunately everyone else thought it was funny too and eventually they all got settled down although it took over 20 minutes. My sister was sooo embarrassed (and cross with me). She persevered but the dog never did take any notice of her......obviously Jeffrey has more brains! PS Here's a not very good picture of my Toby with Bill cat in the background pacing past.

Mind you my friend did have a 1st birthday party for for her dog Charlie Cavalier complete with party hats - I was very proud of my girls as they had lovely table manners ;D I will try and take a photo of the photos of it - they all looked so sweet! We have got some lovely dogs between us. My Springer Teal has been helping in the gdn today and her legs changed from being white with brown spots to a muddy dark brown colour right up to her belly, mucky little monkey.

We're after a Yorkie (standard size) but no luck so far (unless I want to pay £500 for a puppy - which I don't). Anybody know of one? We'd be grateful.

OUCH thats ridiculous......Is there such a thing as a rehoming scheme for unwanted Yorkies, I recall a mate finding something similar for Boxers, there was a web site she used to look at. Or maybe try the RSPCA.

I'm not sure of the geography but I suspect that West Sussex and Bedford are probably the nearest sites to you. Failing that, they might be able to point you in the right direction.

There are some interesting cross breeds now. They've crossed a St Bernard with a Rottweiller I understand. This gives you a dog that attacks you and then goes for help! They've also crossed a Bulldog with a Shitzu - but that of course is errr... a load of nonsense ;D

Oh dear, daughters house/garden destroying dog has been covered with lumps & bumps all over his face and ears for the past couple of days. Ever seen a lab with a face that looks like a rottie? Worked out what the allergy is though - my gunnera's new leaves. Why he would want to chew them is beyond me He is looking rather sorry for himself though, and has had to have a steroid and antihistamine injection.

Thought I would post a photo of Maggie i151.photobucket.com/albums/s130/dirtyboots_2007/Maggie2.jpgShe is a rescued hunting dog. A local farmer bred her but found out that she was gun shy, another neighbour took pity on her and gave Maggie a home because the farmer was going to shoot her!!! The chap who took her in left her tied to a chain all day while he went out to work. Poor Maggie cried and barked, she was so lonely and ignored. The rest of the neighbours complained of the noise, lets face it who wouldn't? The word must have got round about a mad English woman who loves animals. Maggie came to us about 5 years ago and has turned out to be a very loving dog who just loves everybody, even the 3 cats that she shares her home with. She is very good at digging holes, only trouble is they are always in the wrong places!!

Thank goodness there is some english living in France DB because you have saved that dogs life. From what toonia has said in the past and your story now says they dont treat their animals with such kindness as we do. Shooting a dog is so primative and cruel it breaks my heart to think it still happens.

I have been Jeffrey sitting since Friday night and he has had the time of his life, the cats are back to table top level spitting and scratching whilst he goes on his mad runs first thing in the morning. I have chewed up sticks upstairs and down stairs, I have lost count of the times my kitchen table has moved as he has made a dash for the door just in case I am going to let him out of the side gate for a run. I have been jumped on and had my face licked to wake me up at 5 am. I have had to step over him in the kitchen trying to cook dinner and tried to keep his nose out of the dishwasher. He has caught up with all his old mates on his walkies, had lots of tug of war games with Jack, stolen the cat food, peed on every plant he could find and tomorrow he is going home. I think my daughter owes me big time

Cos I will Ali, he's lying by my feet now, he is such a good natured dog but just has so much energy. Jack the Russell gets on so well with him and loves the competition. Even the cats will come in and rub heads with him if he is in quiet mode. He can come again but not too soon
