My purple sprouting broccoli has almost fallen over this week in the winds, and thats only about a metre high, so I reckon a bit of construction work will be required to get the walking stick cabbage though a full season!

Sorry Shrub not sure why it didn't work I've sown 2 seeds today to see how they do over winter ;D seeds.thompson-morgan.com/uk/en/product/779/3Have copied the detail below incase, but there is a picture on the link WALKING STICK CABBAGECropping: 180 Days Height: 15 feet Description (Jersey Cabbage) This famous Channel Islands heirloom kale makes a tall, straight stem, 2m (6ft) tall topped with a rosette of edible leaves. The stems when mature in the autumn can be cut, carved and varnished to make attractive walking sticks. Plants left in a second year may run to seed or increase in height to over 3m (9½ft). Sowing Instructions Sow late March to April, thinly into a well-prepared seed bed, 1cm (½ inch) deep in drills 75cm (30 inches) apart. Growing Instructions Thin seedlings to 10cm (4 inches) apart when large enough to handle, then later transplant to final position, allowing 75cmx75cm (30x30 inches) between plants. Firm plants in well, and water well until established. Aftercare Instructions Provide a moist, rich, well-fertilised soil and sheltered situation. Harvest September to October. Overwintered plants will increase in height in second year.

I'm saving the seeds you sent me to plant in spring Chuckles - I haven't got a GH or PT - so I doubt I could get them through the winter - so I will be patient x Tig

Mine are in peat pots plunged in the PT border alongside the other 'unseasonal' stuff, in the hope they'll be set for take-off outside early next year... only been there a few days, so nothing to photograph yet...
OM.
ps - it looks like there's a cunningly concealed stake at the back of the T&M one - might be a good idea...

Oh dear - I knew that I had forgotten something ......I really am pleased that you posted Chuckles because I had forgotten all about the seeds that you had sent.......sorry about that.
I will sow them tomorrow. They will like most things be kept in a tub, - I am not sure what kind of chance they will have but I will give it a go.

I'll be limited on space too RF. Especially if these 2 survive and also if my spring sown ones both germinate and I end up with 4 ;D I'll probably end up putting 2 in pots.

Fab trial this..... ;D
Do not worry Chuckles when all survive at least there will be plenty of space underneath to fit other stuff in. Hey they could function as a beanstalk or something to grow the cucumbers up or toms or.......
