Yes - maybe even the French froggies are not quite so eager - but will go and have a look. It's a nice walk in a beautiful forest. We had a lot of trees and branches down and my usual walks with my dog are not possible as all the tracks near the lakes are flooded as the lakes have overflowed. I put ear plugs in and put my head under the duvet. It was odd - no wind for a while and then CRASH and an almighty blast of wind - then quiet again so one was waiting for the next crash. It reminded me of being in Brighton during the hurricane.

Just glad you are OK though. Was most of the forest still in place? Or are you checking it out later.

I've been clearing some debris from the side of the pond today and found a couple of dead frogs floating they must have got stuck under the ice a few weeks ago.

Didn't get to the forest, but planning to go now the ice seems to have melted - I hope permanently. Although whether the frogs will have been able to produce yet - will find out. Have loads of maginals to plant - let's hope they haven't suffered too much. Want my pond to look reasonably stocked this summer - looking very blank at the moment - only sign of colour is the sack of barley straw I through in earlier without enough stones to weigh it down properly.

I can now confirm that this weekend has seen the frogs migrate to the pond in their hundreds !!!....it's like a Roman orgy in there. One month to 3 weeks later than the last 3 years.

I went to the forest yesterday and gathered up a large mass of frogspawn from a pool. There was a great deal of croaking and splashing going on, so there should be the usual huge amount of spawn in this particular pool - which comes from a natural underground spring. I hope that I get some frogs from all the spawn, which I have put into my newly installed pond. I plan to only allow wildflife - no fish, which enjoy eating tadpoles. I am just going out - a lovely warm, spring morning - to plant up the pond with loads of aquatic plants, which should be good for the tadpoles - if they hatch. Will keep you posted.

I found some frogspawn in a pot-tray on Saturday! Silly frogs. Anyway they are still splashing about at night so hopefully we'll get some more. I'm really excited because I've always had to bring frogspawn from mum and dad's but this year the frogs are happy and providing it themselves ;D Oh and I've moved the frogspawn into a large shallow tubtrug which will hopefully do for the froglets too. It might even stay in the garden as a new frog-friendly water garden. They obviously struggle to get into the otherones in the heat of passion

We have a big dollop of it in our pond ;D and one of the frogs is very protective. Now that Karl has cleared the irises out they have nowhere to hide tho - I told him off about that. Still plotting revenge - but I can wait

Brought a load of frogspawn from the forest, but it has all disappeared. Some of it sank immediately to the bottom of the pond - which I thought was not a good thing, as it is usually on the surface. Two other large clumps have now disappeared from a ledge, but no sign of tadpoles. don't know whether to get more spawn, or wait until there are tadpoles in the lake in the forest and collect some of those. Anyone know best thing to do?

The stuff under the surface should still be ok Francegarden, as long as its not too deep. In the past ours has been about a foot under water and the taddies hatch ok

Auricula - was your barrel waterproof when you bought it or did you line it? I've been looking on the internet and pond companies sell them waterproofed and other companies sell them really for planting with flowers so the barrel would need a pond liner I guess.
