I cleaned some algae off my pond last night and in the net were so many tadpoles I couldnt count them, I had to make sure they all got back in the water. I love my pond, no fish just wildlife, get so many birds and I love watching them take a bath, they really enjoy it. Worth the hard work and effort put into building it all.

I had a tidy around my pond on Sunday, no frogs or spawn:( OH hasn't come up with the goods either I'll keep my pond despite not having fish in it anymore. The frogs will hopefully return and the birds love to go drink from it and have a splash about at the edge

True it is the reward for refraining from having fish or a well defined decent pond ;D They are at it so the egg time procedures have started

Can anyone help - I know nothing about frogs next door have a small pond
I have many teeny tiny frogs in my garden - they are no bigger than 1" in size - I havent noticed any of them growing any bigger
I wanted to dig up a plant today and one shot out of it so I left it alone
Is there a mini frog that doesnt grow very much as I dont want to harm any of them - and do they eat slugs ;D

They will soon grow and start munching your slugs, they move really quickly so I find they get out of the way of most things like spades and such, and make my heart turn over until I see what they are, ;D just be careful when your mowing the lawn Jen.

Nothing here either Chuckles I just hope I do not get the same shock as last year when I found well over 10 fat bloated dead frogs in the dead plants in my pond. This year I brushed off all snow so the light could get in and fingers crossed it worked well. I could see that the oxygenating plants were doing their thing but still....

that must of been horrible Dutchy poor things. I've had a couple frozen in the thick ice before, winter of 2011. I'm not sure if I had any last year as I wasn't here for the most part. I suppose they will find my pond again at some point, hope so anyway.

It was more than horrible Chuckles . In the meantime I managed to manhandle over 2/3 of my Japanese 'hollowstem' plant out of the pond. Also the Newts have returned. They are not as yet mating but the fact that they are checking out the honeymoon hotel is heartening to see.

Has anyone tips to help encourage a few froggies into the garden ? I`m at a loss . I had a pond for a few years but got rid of it because it was too big, no frogs came . I have several small "water " areas now and there are always puddles about . I was given some spawn a few times but they never grew past tadpole stage , decreased in number and finally dissapeared . At my previous house I often saw the odd frog hopping about in the garden and I had no water feature

Wow Andy. I hear them but they never visit my pond as the newts claimed it. I haven't seen any frog stuff in the ditches as yet.
Frogs either like your area or they don't pothead. I don't think you can force them and if somewhere near is a less populated space they can use they will. Do you have a cat? My neighbors cat always disturbs the frogs that do visit the pond.

I had wondered if cats would detere them Dutchy I don`t own a cat myself but there are several belonging to neighbours that frequent our garden often

Since I moved my pond a couple of years ago now I've had none I only moved it about 10 feet from where it was. I tried importing frog spawn once pothead but failed, why was it that when we were children they survived in jam jars or plastic tubs
