Mmmmm...i bet that smells devine. I used to look after our Orangery and some of the citrus plants were 50 years old and 12 foot tall !!! they used to flower annually...some times twice a year and we used to get the most amaizing Seville and Naval oranges as well as satsumas. The wall of scent when you went in just smacked you in the face !!!!!

I hadn't spotted the flower Andy, just watching the higher buds - it was the smell that gave it away Do I need to pretend to be a bee now? Paintbrush to hand ... ready to pounce, I want a lemon! ;D

Pounce Tig. ( once you have two flowers ) There can't be enough bugs about inside to pollinate it.

Another nice exotic is the Eriobotria or loquat. easily grown and will tolerate most brittish winters. Hopefully i might get one of those too !!!! ;D

I'm getting in a bit of a mess with my garden plans - the lack of space is making things a little difficult at the moment. I wanted to plant the Passion flower so that it would grow along the fence but OH doesn't like the idea as it would make painting difficult - well he is right there.
I can't find any other place to put it so that it can climb and am now wondering whether I should just take some cuttings and have a "new" Passion flower every year - they grow so quickly.
How easy is it to get cuttings to root and is it too late to take some now?

Cuttings root ver easily RF but should be done in early to mid summer. Im sure i did an article on passiflora cuttings somewhere !!!!
You can always try cutting it back hard every year....maybe to a couple of feet above the roots and then cover the roots in straw for a bit of protection. don't know how it'll react but it's got to be worth a try

Marvellous Andy - thanks very much.
Do you think it is worth a try to get some cuttings to root now or shall I leave it?

Personally, i'd leave it although stranger things have happened and you have nothing to lose, so bung some in !!!!

RF I havent tried cuttings but they are very easy from seeds taken from a fruit! in fact I just squashed one on the top of a pot of compost and covered with sand , and they all came!!I grow mine over one of them plastic arches that you can get quite cheaply, I have a wisteria growing at the otherside.

Thanks Maggie - it is the overwintering thing as well here - I think if they are so easy as seeds (when do I sow them) and as cuttings (thanks Andy) then I am better doing that as messing around trying to keep it alive.
Mind you it managed minus 15 with fleece, so it can't be too frost tender.

Well done Tig and Andy - you have obviously more luck than I have.
My Mimosa Pudica have failed for the second time. There is no point in me trying again this year - will try at the end of the year.

Tell you what i bought from wyevales about a month ago.....a small pot with 14 germinated coffee plants in. They've been in the conservatory for a while and ive just potted them up. They make lovely houseplants with dark green glossy leaves and are reltively easy to grow.
