What's that poor purple flower squished behind your Eccy whatsit CC? Lovely dahlias GH - I've never been successful with them. What's your secret?

Hi Plocket ... it's not exactly squashed ... it's a Malva 'Magic Hollyhock' which is tied to the wall ... and when it rained just before I took the pic its head started to droop so I wedged it in behind the Eccremarcarpus ;D ... cheers ...

What's that poor purple flower squished behind your Eccy whatsit CC? Lovely dahlias GH - I've never been successful with them. What's your secret? I'm afraid I don't have one Plocket, I just dig up the tubers each year, dry 'em out in the greenhouse, pack 'em in abit of old spent compost overwinter, water when I remember, take cuttings when they start sprouting in the spring and then replant the tubers (and the cuttings). Lost one plant this year when the garden was flooded, but the Dahlia at the allotment are looking great ;D

Well it certainly sounds like a good thing. The last ones I had died a slow death in the garage over winter

The star turn of the ornamentals this year... I give you Mexican Sunflowers (courtesy of RF) which continue to bud up and bush out: I guess they'd be great for the back of a border, as long as you can get to them to deadhead them. OM.

After growing nasturtiums in the first year, they've since self-seeded - and I really like this one. Unfortunately, presumably there's no point saving the seed in the hope it would come true:

What a fantastic vibrant border Plocket - I don't think that it would work in my small garden but it really is gorgeous.

Blimey Karen. That is tremendous. I have two in the garden and they've not produced anything like that. It's a wonderful display. Hope the blackbirds make a feast of those berries.

That looks marvellous Karenwl, I wonder if the warm Spring had a lot to do with it producing so many berries this year.
