Warning !
When I am an old man I shall wear purple With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me. And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves and satin sandals, an say we've no money for butter. I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells and run my stick along the public railings and make up for the sobriety of my youth. I shall go out in my slippers and in the rain and pick the flowers in other peoples gardens and learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat and eat three pounds of sausages at a go or only bread and pickle for a week and hard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry and pay our rent and not swear in the street and set a good example for the children. We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now ? So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised when suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
Jenny Joseph
My mantra !

I'd like to say that I cut and pasted it .......... but it's stuck on my wall in front of my computer and it was actually quicker for me to type it rather than hunt through all the archives to find the document with it pre-typed. I love the colour purple, and this poem, and your datura ! Can I join your club ? We can be outrageous together. ;D

Hi Toonia. You know as much about it as I do, or perhaps more. I was at a garden center looling for Tiboucina coccinea which had died in the spring. They did not have one to replace it but had the Ruellia. It is a tropical plant standing about a meter tall and seems to spread by new growth coming from the roots. It looks like something that is easily divided and probably acts a bit weedy in the right garden conditions. Ours is in a pot as it will need to come inside for the cold months. It does have some very pretty insect pests too. White scale insects that have red dots sprinkled over them. Sort of a shame to get rid of them. No. I'm not going to add scale insects to my pet list. LOL! Chick-a-DDD

Can I add a wild touch to the club? I took this pic in Palanka Lithouania where these plants grow on the side of the lake. Don't know what it is though. Love the weird combination with the yellow. p.s. the plant realy is purple, my cam made it blue. Am I a member now? Dutchy

;D ;D ;D Erm its Dutchy mrskp not Ditchy though the spellcheck wants me to change my name to ditch too. Yes they are strange plants and I had never seen such a combination. Somehow they don't feel like wild flowers at all. Perhaps some pre war rich Lithouanian planted them and they survived. Mind you almost all around the lake which is several km. So if anyone knows what they are please tell me. Dutchy
