I think I am at last beginning to work out how to use the macro facility on my camera - this is the clearest close up shot I've done so far! If he was trying to find a shady spot, he failed!

Er......I'd have to be in the pond to that one Tig. So, not likely! Much as I love it, I dont fancy crunching things underfoot to get a close up shot of insect life

Good pic Shrub (you SURE you haven't got a new camera???). I just have to post this pic, although a bit off topic, showing how Maltese snails seem to prefer a sunny spot!!

Wonderful pics Roan And what a glorious sky - what are your temperatures like at the moment? Love the basking snails SR! Never really thought about where snails 'roost' - wonder if they let their shell warm up to give them 'central heating' of a sort?

Never really thought about where snails 'roost' - wonder if they let their shell warm up to give them 'central heating' of a sort? It is winter, so at night the temperatures drop quite a bit. At the moment it is only 10C, so pretty cold. During the day it varies quite a bit, today only 15C, but yesterday when the pictures were taken it was around 18C. The sky is like it is because we have no pollution! At night the stars are a wonder to behold and if the moon is out you feel like you could reach out your hand and touch it! Amazing Eh!

The night sky used to fill me with wonder and some fear as a child. I could see it's vastness - nowadays we have so much light pollution in our towns and cities it's almost impossible to appreciate it's beauty. So, lucky you Roan Oh, and those temperatures - that could be our summer on occasions! We're hardy folk!!!

Many many years ago we had 2 hornets fly into one of the factories. You've never seen 40 odd men move so fast in your life. At least it wasn't one of those Japanese things!!

Just spotted this fella on the Potato tub hope you like him not sure if it may be a Damsel of some sort. good pic CA - certainly looks like a damsel... very sharp, a flighty subject and it gets a first nom from me found this in the PT, hovering - but also apparently nuzzling the flowers like a bee. I thought Hoverflies ate other flies? OM.
