My wood chippings attract a varied selection of these each year - found this little forest today (with an interested feline wanting to get in the frame!)

A Ranger friend has just told me the names of the fungi's, the first one is called Jews Ear and when it is dry it shrivels up to almost nothing then opens up when it is damp. The second lots of pics is called Birch Bracket as it mainley grows on Birch, and it is said that early man used it to carry fire around, you could light one and it would smoulder all day, also you can sharpen a razor on them as well. Just two bits of info about them.

Fine fruiting body... though I guess I should be ashamed - it's growing on the inside of my (neglected) kitchen window... Whatever it is, it's ephemeral, they appeared this morning, one as you can see has already gone over at the time of the pic (3pm) and as of now the other is fading too... OM.

I found these when we were out for a walk on Boxing Day. I've only just sussed out how to download pictures from my camera since my PC is playing silly bu**ers I hope they're ok. My screen makes it difficult to tell whether they're any good or not. FA x
