Took this earlier on in the week, same fungi with a snowy topping ;D

After the rain and now moist humid conditions the fungi have started to bloom in certain areas.

Spotted several this morning, including ..



and these Birds Nest Fungus - cyathus olla

You would think with all this heat that fungi would not be growing so well

I've never heard of the birds nest fungi, amazing Tig.

Just had a look back through all the fungi that have been posted on here, some amazing pics. I found one yesterday while rummageing about in one of the beds, it was growing on and old Laurel stump. My first thought was that it was a lump of melted black plastic, maybe something that I'd burnt and the ashes had been put on the garden. When I picked it up and examined it closer I thought maybe a plant tuber. Don't ask me why but I smelt it and that told me it was Fungi. I don't smell everything I find by the way ;D

Been scanning the web and I reckon it's Dead Mans Finger what a horrid name. I snapped a finger off ;D to see what it was like inside. Looks like it was home for a teenie weenie slug too ;D

What a shame - quite a clue in the name, I agree... but the 'meatyness' is appealing. I've never seen it.

If names were the ultimate 'steer' as to edibility, who would want puffballs with his bacon and eggs?

There is something very pretty about it Tig, especially with the black edging. I wonder if it's poisionous, remember they used to have letters edged in black when there was a death.

Don't think I would try any fungi growing in the wild, I am a bit old for hallucinating, and a bit young for dieing!

It looks like a Wood Blewit from the photo

I never used to take much notice of mushrooms, but now have a fascination towards them. Think I will have to enrole myself on a course to learn more about them, but too late for this year.
