Brilliant Aurora - thanks I have a book on fungi but none of the photos looked like this one! I've noticed more and more different types seem to grow in our garden, or I've just become better at spotting them I find them fascinating too, I even painted a couple last winter. x Tig

I think it is a russula - perhaps aurata. It depends what sort of trees are growing nearby.

A couple from this past week I think this is Ear Fungus (Auricularia auricula-judae) These look and smell like eating mushrooms but I would never risk it, there are so many that look similar I'm not sure of the name

A couple from this past week I think this is Ear Fungus (Auricularia auricula-judae) These look and smell like eating mushrooms but I would never risk it, there are so many that look similar I'm not sure of the name no 1/ you are right, it is Auricularia auricula-judae, no2/ right again, it is one on the "eating mushrooms", one of the Agaricus species, possibly A. augustus, but members of this genus are NOT all edible ! so unless you are 100% certain that any fungus is 100% safe to eat, then it is much safer to leave them where you find them, stick to the supermarket ones
