Quite exciting here this evening, the gusts of wind were whistling through the house, down the chimneys, under the eaves and rattling the letter box. Wish these storms would blow over somewhere else.

Same here last night, windy and very, very wet, and just across town a couple of miles from us they had a tornado, felled trees and tore roofs off houses, knocked garden walls over.

Police declared a major incident in Tameside at about 23:45 GMT on Wednesday "due to the severity of the damage caused and potential risk to public safety".
Around a hundred homes have been damaged and people are being asked to avoid the area.

How awful for those residents, so much damage to deal with. Seems like no-one was hurt which is a miracle.
The winds and torrential rain continues here, so much for the forecast as they said today would be better. It's so dark.

One man cut his finger trying to pick his dog up from under some rubble on the stairs, very sad for them all, I just hope the insurance is OK.

Settled down a bit here. Rain stopped and the sun shone for an hour or so. Cool out though & thick clouds have arrived again so looks like we'll have more wet stuff shortly.

it fell to minus 5 overnight here, the car door wont open yet, even in the sunny front of the house it's very cold still.

The bin lids were frozen at 10:30pm yesterday evening, then it went a little bit warmer (1.1c) and they thawed. Misty, chilly start to the day but the frost had gone. Only 2.3c now.

No visible frost here but the birds water is frozen solid. It is an icy wind out there but at least it is bright & sunny.

Cold again but it's allowing the flooded places to dry out, the odd snow shower is forecast for tomorrow, the sunset is creeping slowly past 4.15.
