That's why I prefer Hebes. The white Buddleias look awful when the flowers go brown. Having said that, mine is/was a purple one.

We had to get rid of several Hebes - there were 13 of them here when we came! One was so ginormous that it blocked the light in the sitting room. Then several died in the severe weather in winter 2010/11.

I reckon I've got to send my big purple budd at the top of the garden to the budd garden in the sky with me not being here much last year and not having much time for the garden this year it has got rather out of hand, other stuff has grown up around it too. I've got a lovely dark pink one in another part of the garden so the butterflies will still have their food. I've also realised I've got a cutting of a white one now I've seen its started to flower, not sure where I got that from or when I got it

I had one that got really out of hand Chuckles I sawed it off at the base & it's come back much more restrained. I'm so happy after a year's wait I've got flowers on Rosefriend special Budd, thanks so much Jasmine for the cutting, I think it's just beautiful & so do the bees & butterflies

Well done Jilly - it's my favourite budd by far! My black knight started to sprout and then slowly wilted and died...I hope it's not the dreaded honey fungus - budds are supposed to be quite susceptible.

that it isn't Jasmine. I'm not sure how this one is going to get on long term as it's in a pot (quite a big pot ) puts on lots of healthy growth doesn't it

It reaches triffid like proportions in the ground Jilly! But the good thing is that you can cut them back really hard each year. Cuttings are easy in water if you want a back up too!

It's lovely Jilly, I really like it, well done. My own little Buzz which came from Jasmine a good few years ago now is happily growing in it's pot and flowering well.

My special Budd is still alive and was magnificent this year, just going over now. However I've got a problem here - it has got too big, more wide than anything, in the ground, even though I hacked it back to a foot in the spring and it can't stay in the front garden.
So I want to move it but am I right in thinking that Budds don't like that as they have a tap root. It's only been in a year there - maybe I have a chance??

Well, every plant that is moved has 2 chances Rosefriend!!! Have you got some cuttings on the go just in case? I have a few baby plants but I am very fussy about who I give them too - I don't sell them at my plant sales Is your budd buzz in the pot still quite big Ladygardener? I have one in a pot and it is quite big but not proper budd size and one in the ground that's a bit more surrounded and isn't quite so big. I'll take some pics. I guess the one in the pot gets fed and watered better than the one in the ground.

The RF Special Budd at your plant sales - heaven forbid woman, you need tying down if you do that !! RF

Take some cuttings immediately Rosefriend! I find, cos I get a thing about moving things and have to do it straight away, that most stuff moves ok just as long as it gets a good soak til its found its feet/roots! It's not kind and generous not to be able to share things though is it...still not sharing the budd with anyone who's not on here!

Oh I can be kind and generous but like yourself nobody not on GWD gets a RF special budd - don't even tell them where I have bought it and the normal GC's haven't got it - even Olaf hasn't !!!!!! Will get some cuttings today !! Yes I think you are right - it's water, water and water and a prayer that we don't get a minus 25degC winter !!! RF

When I see them growing in the side of a wall I wonder why mine needs so much water when they can't be getting that much. I think I'll take some of the soil out next spring and add John Innes or something loamy to see if that helps. I love it 'tho and am very happy with it.

Good thought Ladygardener - our neighbour has one growing out the side of their chimney pot - not much earth or moisture up there and yet mine wilt quickly in the sunshine!

You're right Ladygardener - yours is bushier and a bit shorter but looking very healthy! I suppose keeping them in a pot may help to keep them under control size wise. I think I always imagined the buzz buds would be smaller than they are

About the same size as yours Ladygardener or perhaps a bit bigger, it's in quite a small pot too so it dries out quite quickly, there's no way it's going in the ground though, we planted Mum's in the ground & it's gone mental. I've got an Ivory one too & that looks to be going the same way.

Ah I did wonder Jilly. Still I guess they do stay small if you prune them right back as we have done and they're manageable.

Hm at least out here one can be certain that buds in pots die. No buds growing out of impossible places on walls chimneys or by the side of the railway either. They do like it dry and we have too moist winters. And too cold and no I am so not going to overwinter a bud in the GH. Never mind that the special bud I had in pot that did get through winter turned out to be a... Deutzia..... don't ask.

Oh dear Dutchy! So buzz buds in pots then - although I have an ivory one planted in the ground on the terrace - it's so swamped with other stuff I'm sort of hoping that will keep it in control!
