Good thing I didn't actually see the match. I've been really confused as to which channel/broadcaster will be bringing English/Premier League soccer here. it was Setanta up to last seas, but then when i found out that Setanta has lost the Premier league contact, and ESPN had bought it, I thought ESPN would be the new carrier here. So, after talking with my digital TV provider (Bell TV here) I promptly cancelled Setanta on the assurance that ESPN was already part of the package i was paying for (no need to keep paying extra for Setanta). Lo and behold, there I was getting all keyed up to see the Chelsea/Man U match up on Sunday, switched on ESPN, and to my chagrin all they had on was some National Hockey League match that was played sometime in the early eightees (by the players on the ice). No other channel carried it. I've subsequently found out that the ESPN channel I have (ESPNc) only brings old matches. What I was told by the learned Bell TV adviser was that "ESPNc" stood for "ESPN Canada" to distinguish it from ESPN in the States. But what I have now learned is that the small "c" at the end stood for "classic", not "Canada" and all the channel brings is old, a.k.a. "classic' hockey, footbal (American and Canadian) and basketball matches primarily. Of course I was thoroughly pe*d off. Anyway, further inquiries back to my TV provider led to the clarification that Setanta still had the contract rights for bringing Premier League/English soccer, including Champions League, to North American TV outlets. ESPN only has it for UK (and I guess Ireland). So then I had to have my subscription to Setanta re-installed, which happened last evening. I guess the good thing is that I have it in time for the start of the new season on Saturday. There are also some World Cup qualifiers on tomorrow, but I'm not all that excited about seeing Faroe island take on Spain. Don't know if someone will bring the England/Netherlands friendly. They usually bring the England qualifiers and friendly on special pay per view channels. Anyway, al's well that ends well. Only thing is now I'm back to paying extra for Setanta.

Off to the mecca of football saturday for my annual pilgrimage to the Boleyn ground in E13. Me and my daughter go to this friendly every year where West Ham will be playing Italian giants Napoli in the "Bobby Moore cup". Got the tickets today.....£24 for the pair of us (proceeds to the Bobby Moore cancer research charity). Can't wait ;D How'd it go mate ? I saw it was a 1-0 defeat but other than that, I haven't heard how the game went. How do you think the Hammers will do this season ? FA

Setanta has gone out of business here in the uk TT - our Prem games are split between ESPN and (mainly) SKY Seems like an odd situation, Auricula. I guess it's tied up in a lot of contract knots, because ESPN isn't bringing any of the Prem games - or apparently any footie games - here in Canada. Setanta is still the main carrier here, with 2 other carriers bringing a few. I've reopened my Setanta account and the other 2 channels are part of the package I have with my TV provider (Bell TV) so I'm set to go. Saturday morning I will be in place for the opener with my morning coffee in hand. The first game here is usually 7.30am. We get about 3 live games from Setanta starting at that time, with some delayed broadcasts in the afternoon/evening. One of the other channels would usually have one live game on Saturday morning.

I'm off to Portman Road this afternoon for the first home game of the season. Ipswich v Leicester. My brother & niece are Leicester fans and they've got tickets in the away end. I really hope we do better that the first home game of last season against Preston (we lost 2-1 and were bloody awful : because there's several months of family banter riding on this !! FA x

Hmm...... better luck next time FA Well done Chelsea - although they left it late Also, well done Fulham and Dagenham ( all places I have lived - and I always follow their results ) Bravo Colchester United - another good win, eased the jinx of winning at home ( silly remark by Paul Lambert last season put the mockers on them!) Did better than Ipswich,Chelmsford or Southend

All footie fans dream at this time of the year Auricula, and its nice to have a good start,it was too much to expect the Clarets to win their first 3 games, but 2 out of 3 is not bad

Good result for my team Sunderland yesterday, optimistic for the coming season with some good signings from Bruce got a good balance through the side and added some bite with Cana and Cattermole. We certainly aren't going to win the fair play league!!
prediction of 9th this season.

My first visit to the "home of football" ended in a somewhat dour 0-0 draw. First half was absolute rubbish, second half was better, with Ipswich creating the better chances. After the performance in the first game last season against Preston (which was shambolic) I didn't go again all season. This season, I will probably venture along again in the next few weeks. FA x

Shocking start to the season for Ipswich. 1 point from 3 games with West Brom away on Saturday, which will probably make it 1 point from 4 games.
I said I would reserve judgement on Keane until he'd had a chance to get the players in that he wanted and get them playing his way. I stick by that, and will give him til the end of October. He'd better get his bloody finger out soon though or our season will be over before Christmas.

I was right. Ipswich were awful. Again. I fail to see how playing a 16 year-old up front more or less on his own, when you have 2 proven strikers on the bench is going to win games. We're lightweight, gutless, have no idea going forward and look shaky at the back. Other than that, everything's fine........ More of a relegation battle than a promotion charge this year, methinks. Keane certainly seemed to promise more than he's delivered so far FA - still, chin up, there's still a long way to go yet.

So.....anyone fancy going to West Ham v Millwall tonight ? It ain't gonna be pretty ;D When I saw the draw, I mentioned it to a Hammers fan in my office. Her response was "oh my God, it's going to be a bloodbath" ! Not a game for the faint hearted, that's for sure. West Ham and Millwall fans aren't exactly keen on each other are they ;D I hope there are plenty of riot police in the vicinty tonight or my colleague could well be right ! I've been to a few Ipswich v Norwich games. The rivalry is pretty intense but I've never really felt threatened, even when I went to Carrow Road wearing my Ipswich shirt ! FA x

The trouble appears to have been caused by people without tickets turning up for one reason and one reason only - to cause mayhem.

The news reader on 5live this morning said ' iwent to bed at 9 o clock and woke up in the 80's' I know there is a bitter rivalry there but why has it flared up again now. Its not just West Ham and Millwall fans. there was a incident with Sunderland fans travelling back from Glasgow last month and a load of Newcastle fans were at the train station waiting for them.
I read an article in a local paper and the theory was everything goes in a circle, like fashion and hooliganism is fashionable again.
I also think England can kiss goodbye to the World Cup coming here now!

I also think England can kiss goodbye to the World Cup coming here now! Sadly, that's probably true. What annoys me is that the Italians, Germans, Dutch and Turks are far worse than we are in terms of hooliganism and yet they never seem to get punished. FA

I don't want to divert the blame away from these knuckle-draggers in any way but you would've thought that the relevent authorites would've heeded the warnings with this fixture. With the intense hatred and the history with this fixture, you would've thought they would've played the game at midday (yes, even on a week day), behind closed doors maybe or at least have no away supporters. So what do they do.....they give Millwall an extra 1,000 tickets !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There were reports of "200 riot cops".....200 ? At one point, there was an estimated 1,000 Millwall on one side of the street and 1,000 West Ham on the other....seperated by 200 cops. Methinks all the authorities....police, FA, football clubs all got this one very wrong.
