Well, OH's small son (a budding gardener) is on a visit ;D, and he brought me Penstemon 'Sour Grapes'. So we planted it, which took quite some time - he decided where it should go, dug the hole, added compost, added seaweed fertiliser, planted the Penstemon, and then firmed the ground etc. Beautiful colour - I can't wait for it to flower next year, and I'm looking forward to taking lots of cuttings in the spring ;D ... cheers ...

I have been having a 'sort out' in the greenhouse! Cutting back the cuttings and taking more! Picking over all the plants that will be in the greenhouse for the Winter and generally having a good tidy up ;D

Doing battle with an ornamental blackberry which I train over an arch; taking out the old canes and tying in the new. It is supposed to be thornless but has reverted to one of its parents. Also had a go at the three grapevines. The proper grapevine actually produced bunches of grapes this year, instead of currants - must be all the rain! The two ornamental ones have been severely pruned and retrained into some sort of order. That's more than enough for this weekend; we're off on a coach trip for a mystery tour on Sunday - wonder where to. I'm hoping it will be somewhere like Harlow Carr, where there is a Betty's Tea Room. ;D

Cleared away the last of my marigolds and nasturtiums and planted my tulips and a few more alliums (first lot of alliums I planted a couple of weeks ago have 3" of leaf showing ). Pruned an overgrown potentilla, and a few other shrubs had a light haircut (once I get going with the secateurs it is hard to stop!! ;D)

A quick nip in the garden today. I cut back the vine and topped a rose that grew stems over 2.5 m . I'll do the real tough cutting back in February/March but this way the winter wind does not rock it of its socks.

Im guessing PT is a poly tunnel MRH. Sorry MRH - PT is a Poly Tunnel same as GH is a Greenhouse and GC is a Garden centre. We do tend to use abbreviations quite a lot here so anyone shout if you don't know what we are on about

I knew what GH and GC were it's just I couldn't think what a PT was, you wouldn't believe some of the things I came up with...some a bit too rude to say ;D

Well gardening is going to be out for longer than I hoped as I have to have another op next Tuesday However, My friend and I are doing a plant sale tomorrow for the local Stroke Club - got some wallflowers and winter pansies that we have grown along with some other bits and pieces. So although I can't do anything in my garden, I will at least be close to plants!! Bliss

Hope you make a few bob at the plant sale tcl - and I will think of you next Tuesday, sorry to hear you are having problems. I have been pruning again - removed green growth shoots from a variagated elaeagnus - lopped the apple tree a bit - oh and I sprayed the purple sprouting broc with a light dose of soapy water to remove the grey aphids
