I've tackled two small beds on the right of the path in the back garden. You can walk between them without a fight now. All the phlox deadheaded and pulled all the spent summer annuals, weeded and dug out 3 ragworts which had self sown and grown like mad. There are ants nesting under one of the roses, it looks very sickly. Not sure what I can do to help it.

I believe they don't like being we, so lots of water might help get rid Tig,

That sounds like the perfect plan, a growing bed that grows as you need more plant spaces I've taken all the apples off that were easy to detach, they kept dropping and spoiling so I thought it better to pick them so less end up on the compost. Did a bit of watering, deadheading and weeding. This warm weather can't last, can it? Everything is still doing really well, if we don't have any frosts for a while the garden may stay looking cheerful for quite a while yet.

Love that idea too Jasmine. Our garden has loads of colour still too Tig, long may it last. I've only been doing a bit of dead heading here and there and picking toms and raspberries but Jenny has been working hard on revamping part of the big border that runs around one side of the house. It's looking great and we're hoping to start planting some of our bulbs this week.

Hoeing, deadheading, cutting back in the garden then went to the allotments and made a leaf bin ready for them falling, planted out spring cabbage seedlings, spread compost on the bed where the winter onions are going, they are for sale in the hall so next time I go I'll get some, a general tidy of the GH ready for winter, same in the shed, then got some barrowloads of woodchips for the paths.

I've moved and tidied all the pots on the side terrace, weeded & demossed them, repositioned 3 clematis along the back of the fence so the pots stay cooler & I can water them more easily. All the hydrangeas have had a good soak as some were bone dry, swept up and collected fallen leaves, moved some odd ornaments that were dumped in gaps, they all all along the side of the garage now apart from several that went in the bin. Deadheaded & cut back the ancient lavender and rosemary a bit, moved two troughs of asters and pruned out a branch of the mahonia so they will get more light and rain when it eventually decides to fall. Everywhere is bone dry. Deadheaded the calendulas & dahlias again, they are still flowering well and attracting hoverflies.

Bit of deadheading here too, lots of dahlia and calendula in flower at home lots of nasturtum and calendula on the allotments, pulled some beetroots and brought them home, the cabbage and sprouts leeks and parsnips are looking good, the potatoes are shooting up too, so we will have plenty of autumn and winter veg.

Onwards with tackling the containers round the back, 16 done in total, including a tall one that I'd put a clematis wisley cream in, it had filled the pot with roots and not had many flowers so I cleared it and will use it for one of my new peonies when they arrive. I only found vine weevil grubs in two of the pots, both had lilies in them. Several of the others had self sown wallflowers and no sign of any grubs, wonder if the adults don't like the smell of the wallflowers? I may plant some in other containers, they were all bone dry so I've but them in a bowl of water and will transplant tomorrow. I managed to get all last years saved tulip bulbs into the peony containers, may as well try them in there. All had some feed and fresh compost mixed in. Moved all the lily bulbs into one pot on their own, daffs were replanted in two, and I have two pots ready to use for other stuff, not sure what yet, but have loads to plant out so any space is good. Watered everything afterwards as still no sign of rain.

I planted the3 red mohican alliums & 10 iris reticulata Katherine's Gold in the borders. Decided to clear half the veg plot, the corn was too late to produce any good cobs and the strawberries were taking over with runners. Moved some elephant garlic bulbs, the ground was bone dry to a spade depths, it took me ages to get it turned over as I'd compacted it by walking all over it. I've watered all the pots again, it isn't worth planting anything out while it is this dry though.

Haven't felt like gardening but today I started to plant up Bonnie's bed, she snoozed by it while I dug it out over the past 3 weeks, and I also planted my Amelanchier. It was very hot even at 3pm.

Dry here too yesterday and Jenny cracked on with more raised beds after she cut the grass out in the back garden. We now have our dedicated blueberry bed for our 4 blueberry bushes. She has also started on the frame for another big raised bed, not quite sure exactly what we'll grow in it but it will be filled with something that's for sure. Jenny has also put in some of the posts for the new area for the raspberries which we will move when they're dormant. I did some planting and dead heading. It was 7pm and getting dark when we went inside, thankfully we were recording strictly so did'nt miss any of it.

I've repotted two hydrangeas which I had hastily planted in smallish pots in spring, they should have room to grow for a couple of years now. More deadheading, watering and weeding, if only all plants were as robust as weeds I'd never need to water!

Thankfully we've had a good bit of rain so watering can be left for another while apart from the odd container. We've harvested all our sweetcorn now and it has been delicious, our potatoes are all lifted and I've pulled up the non existent broccoli. I found homes for a few digitalis and some hollyhocks I'd raised from seed and did a little weeding before the rain sent us inside.

It was a bit wild over night so after I'd done my Ofsted work I went round the garden cutting off any broken bits and adding more support to the dahlias which suffered the most from wind damage.

A few pots had blown over during the night here, but the plants seemed OK. I've cut back nearly everything in the WIG, just my unknown chilli is still growing, and a few shoots on the toms I've left but doubt they will do anything. Then I cut back the garrya elliptica James Roof because it was hanging over the back fence into the neighbours garden, typically I've cut off several branches that had catkins forming! The brown bin gets emptied tomorrow thankfully as it is full to the rim.

I straightened up some Delphinium and put some Rudbeckia into a vase outside as they'd been damaged by the winds. Dead heading and turning compost kept me warm outside today.

I've been out looking for planting opportunities. I have dug up a daylily that I am not fussed about and have a peony to go in it's place and I have dug up a helenium, split it and replaced it with a rudbeckia. It was lovely working in the sunshine.

We had a couple of hours on the plots, took out the sunflowers the birds have finished with and composted them along with the squash plants, dug out the carrots, some leeks, parsnips, took some cucumbers and beans, watered the potatoes in the GH, did some weeding, Derek turned an empty bed over and we cut back the comfrey

I've been pottering and dead heading. At least there's no need to water with all the rain we had overnight. I've noticed the birds coming to the feeders more lately so they're filled up or topped up most days. We have about 4 or 5 different containers with water in them for the birds to bathe in or drink from, they do both so I like to use rain water in them after I've cleaned them every couple of days.

Tackled the cotoneaster coming over from next door, had to use the long loppers and they seem much heavier these days, my arms ached. Pulled the two rampant clematis out of the hedge and hacked them both back. Pruned a few other plants that were over the paths, and pulled a few weeds I spotted. Planted out the 10 winter aconites corms I'd soaked overnight, they had plumped up nicely so fingers crossed they will grow. There were loads of hawthorn shieldbugs in the prunings, they kept appearing on top of the brown bin so I've had to collect them up and take them all back down the bottom of the garden so they can find themselves new homes.

We cut back all the plants in the garden bed, the bindweed is still coming through from the next plot, it was tangled in the plants and the fence, I might put some weed killer on it next year, we have lots of stuff to start a new compost heap next week, we dug out the crocosmia and some rhubarb and took it to the tip, the bed needs raking and compost on top before the weather gets too cold.

Ive cut back the peony, rhubarb euonymus crocosia and a clematis that grows up my little obelisk and noticed it has corroded a bit !! I wonder if I can mend it ?? I will have to see what is in the garage, the bottom is stuck firmly so I don't want to disturb it, its only cheap tubular so I might be able to stick it.
