Planted 3 bags of narcissi chionodoxa and daffodils for my daughter and son in law, they'd been sitting around for ages, nobody had time to plant them, thought I'd at least give them a fighting chance.

Well I have just come in after 5 hours fighting with Blackberry roots and nettles my back is killing me now but I feel very satisfied that its done. Its taken me 4 weeks to get that part of the garden in some order, wanted the OH to help but he had to go to market with some lambs so I did it all myself plus he would have messed it up and dug the wrong thing out. Dont get me wrong he will help but need to be supervised 24/7 or he digs everything and I mean everything.

Groan Carolann, I have to attack our hedge too at some point soon. Bloomin' bramble has found it's way in. Only noticed it the other day when I was picking some sloes. I have to keep an eye on my OH too! ;D

Feeling very frustrated as there is so much I could be doing in the garden, but I am not allowed to do anything strenous, lift, dig etc. Was hoping to have been able to do some 'light' jobs this week, but I had to have another op last week, so I am back to square one. Maybe I can do a little bit next week (if the weather stays dry)

Ooooh I've had a lovely day, bonfire was first job ;D Had to move a lot of it before I lit it to make sure there were no hedgehogs in there, thankfully there wasn't. Once lit it went like a dream. Tidied up some pots that had Sweetpeas in them, collected a few seeds pods from them before they were popped in the compo bin. Emptied my hanging baskets and potted up the white Geraniums from them, hope to try and over winter them. Looked at the state of GH and Poly after I bunged them both up with plants yesterday after realising we were due -3 last night Decided sorting them out is a job for another day ;D

Thecleaninglady, you'll have to do some virtual gardening via the boards here for the time being. I'm glad to hear you have had your op and are on the mend. Chuckles, my sweetpea always end up with mould on them by the end of the season and I can't even use them in my compost bin in case I spread it.

I've had a go at the fallen leaves - but I reckon I should 'leave' it a while longer - no sooner swept them up than another layer arrive x Tig

my sweetpea always end up with mould on them by the end of the season and I can't even use them in my compost bin in case I spread it. I have one sweetpea still flowering - not madly, but enough to provide three or four stems for the kitchen vase every few days. Was going to go out and prune my blackccurrent bush, then found that the two books I have with instructions are totally contradictory , so left it until I can ask a friend ... cheers ...

How lucky you are CC, there's nothing like the smell of sweetpea, they just mean summer to me. I'm sure someone here somewhere can help with the blackcurrent Tig are you making leaf mould then

I'm no expert, but after I have picked the currants, I remove some of the older and weaker stems , leaving just a few strong newish ones. Make a cup shape, just like roses. I don't see any reason why you couldn't do it now, just don't prune the stems you are keeping. What do your books say?

Morning, Done done tidying this morning. Cut down the Rudbeckia stems, cut the roses back, chopped the Crocosmia back to grouynd level. Weeded the stray grass and weeds out of the border. Thanks about it. A bit at a time, every day. Cheers Mr G

Just saw this, thanks Wee - one book says the same as you, the other says to cut all stems down by a third to a bud ... but I think I'll go with your method, since it makes sense ;D Will get out later today if it stays clear (been bucketing down the past few days) ... cheers ...

Well seeing as the rains kept off i have just spent an hour.Gathering leaves sweeping leaves cutting back roses pulling up flatend cosmos. The snow on sunday put paid to my cosmos. Give the boarders a bit of a hoe. There was so many leaves i am sandwiched between neigbours weeping willow and giant silver birch the other side. The daft thing is these 2 neighbours dont have all the leaves on their sides Gardens looking tidier now though till next lot of leaves.

It was lovely today so I spent a couple of hours pottering ;D
Finally got my Geraniums, Pelargoniums and Fushias sorted out after bunging them in the poly about a week ago when we had that -5c night. Did a few cuttings too, also did some Lavendar cuttings.
OH came home yesterday with some 3" thick offcuts of polystyrene so I put those on the floor in the GH today under the staging to help keep the plants all snug over winter.
