I took the plunge and sowed 10 Sweet peas on Christmas day. I wonder if they are willing to grow. Wrong time... wrong moon ( waning is not good for sowing I have been told )... wrong temperature etc. etc. .

I did wonder if you would. good luck with them but if they just hide under the ground, they'll come up in springtime so be sure to mark where you've sowed them. ;D

Nah I don't think I said where I was sowing. Mind you the first bit of not entirely certain green showed yesterday. It has not grown much but it might turn into a Sweet pea at some time in the future. Nine are still asleep.

I sowed some Sweet Peas today. 20 x Princess Elizabeth Salmon Pink. 20 x Miss Wilmott Orange/Pink Biocoloured. 20 x Beaujolais Deep Burgundy. Planted them in individual square pots 1 seed in each then placed them in the home made propagator with some news paper over the top of them then the glass in the lid. The ones sowed last year are ready to be nipped off to encourage side shoots. Lost 3 of the white ones but the Dark Blue are doing great. Will have to get another propagator made so I can finish sowing the rest of them, still lots to be sowed.

Wow. Do they have to be in a propagator? Mine just sit on the cool windowsill in their little loo rolls. Only one up so far.

No you dont have to have a propagator, I put mine in there (no heat) just to help protect them thats all. Its so dam cold in the GH I had ice on the inside of the roof last week. I cant afford to heat it as its so big 30 odd foot long x 20ft wide.

Well, the Winston Churchills sown in toilet roll inners are now all around 8/9 inches; I'll let them get a couple of inches bigger and then plant them out ... if all goes to plan , next year I'll have a wall of Solanum Alba, Passiflora Caerula and these glorious deep red sweetpeas, all intertwined. Well, that's the plan anyway ... cheers ...

Bleu Danube number three poked its head up. It is quite a miracle to me how much time is between them. I know I bought this packet of seeds for 1/4 of the price as they are running out of time but still.....
Should I do something about the fungus on the outside of the loo rolls? It appeared on the area's where there was glue. It seems not to bother the seedlings that are up at all and it is not on the inside of the rolls.

Is'nt everyone doing great with their sweetpeas. I've had fungus growing outside my loo rolls before dutchy and I just scraped it off. It won't harm the plants so don't worry. ;D it'll settle down.

My brave little sweet pea seedlings. Is there a way of stopping them from going leggy? I'll place some tinfoil behind them so they get more light. Any other tricks?

If they are getting enough light,Dutchy, may be they are too warm, they are quite hardy,i sow mine out side, and leave them there all winter

Dutchy they've really shot up since you first saw their green specs. I think they are too warm 'tho. do you have anywhere a bit cooler you could move the ones which have germinated to?

Last season's sweet peas seemed to grow too strongly to the extent that they were almost too big when they were planted out. I have countered that this time around by sowing them a fortnight later, at the beginning of November. This is how they looked this afternoon. Firstly before pinching out the growing tips..... and secondly after their haircut....

Looks like you will have a regular forest of sweet pea this summer. How many did you sow?

They do look like a mini forest Spruance ;D healthy things too. Mine will be about ready for the chop in a week or sow I reckon. Dutchy, you definately need to put them in a cooler but light place, it will stop them getting too leggy
