Yesterday quite a few flowers (and more veg) ..
Hollyhocks, foxgloves, canterbury bells, sweet william, delphiniums, penstemon (and in the veg plots dwarf french beans, florence fennel, turnips, swede, more radish, beetroot, mixed salad leaves, oriental mustard) I may sow some more spinach as the first lot is now bolting, and I have a packet of winter pansies which could go in, if I can find space!

Excellent Tig, good to see you're being so productive. I must get organised tomorrow and see what I can still sow.

My wallflowers have been through for about four days now. Ooooh Mowhay, how long did they take. I've just sown some in trays because I like to see what has germinated, then I'll pot them on in tubs to grow on before I put them in the garden.

Chuckles they took less than a week, planted them in trays in the GH and was surprised when I looked and there were dots of green there Thanks Mowhay I'll bring mine in the GH, if I can find room One tray has been sowed for about 10 days and nothing they have been outside though. I usually buy some bunches of wall flowers but thought I'd grow my own this year.

Chuckles I think you feel much better when you have grown them yourself, especially if someone comments on how your front border looks, I try to grow all my flowers from seed, annuals and perennials

Sowed some more carrots, salad/lettuce, beetroot today but still have room in the veg bed for the Chard seed when they arrive. ;D The other day I sprinkled a few aquelegia seeds around just to see what comes up. I know I sowed sweetwilliam seeds but for the life of me I can't remember where as I didnt mark them.

One boarder put up pics of Centaurea macrocephala so I had to have them. 3 days and the seeds are sprouting Also put in Exelsior foxgloves, Cherianthus Fair Lady. also germinated Canterbury bells, made a slip with the order number(at least I think it was me, J instead of G,after the seed number.I should have had Campanula lactiflora mixed colours. but they'll come in useful. Echeveria mixed typed

I wonder if it's not a good time to try sowing some lupin seeds. I've got Morello Cherry from T&M and thought I'd give them a head start. I can overwinter them easily enough if I get them to germinate. I also wondered if I could sow a few of the following. What do folks think?
Cornflower Aftican Marigold Lychnis Anthirranium Nigella

Lychnis Evening Primrose Parsley I am really avidly collecting seed, I have little envelopes everywhere and am trying my best to remember to label everything - from my garden as well as from the garden at work...I really love sowing seed at this time of year! ;D We sowed Lupins at work a couple of weeks ago - nothing showing yet though.....it wouldn't hurt to give it a go, LG! I sow a little of lots of things now and save seed for the Spring to cover any failures.....fun isn't it?

Wow you've got lots on the go there 4P. I've sown a few things already too, Aqulegia, SweetWilliam, I've planted out properly a couple of Foxgloves. I think it makes the winter seem shorter somehow if you are looking after little seedlings. I'll be sowing the Sweetpea soon too of course as I do every autumn.

Germinated and in the mini greenhouse Lettuce, lollo rossa Basil Marigold Oranges and Lemons many thanks to Carolann Nigella cornflower white lisbon I've sowed some of my own saved lavender seed this week and would be delighted if they grew. I've grown tons of lavender for years but never knew were the seed is until this year. It's very fiddly to get to does anyone else think this?

Over the past few days I've sown some seeds which appreciate a bit of cold to get them growing
Geraniums Potentilla Phormium Allium
I have a few others that seem to respond to similar treatment .. geum did better for getting a 'chill' last year - must check my lists.

I've sown some Geum this year as well Tig, fingers crossed. I did manage to get one to germinate last year and it's grown into a substantial plant this year but no flowers. Hopefully next year. You really do need patience don't you.

It's very fiddly to get to does anyone else think this? I agree they are fiddly to get to LG, I reckon it's one of those awkward seed heads, you need to catch them at just right time, probably best to bunch the stems together pop them in a paper bag and hang them somewhere dry and shake every now and again. The things we do for seeds ;D I'm currently sorting through seed packets and pondering what to sow

;D Now is one of the best times to do so anyhow don't worry your behaviour is normal. Plans plans plans. As for lavender I allow it to self seed and then prick out the new plants from the gravel. Worked a treat so far. Only thing is I have four colours on the go and what colour the baby will be is always a surprise. Getting the seeds out of that mini pocket is far too much for me.

Well no sign of germination from my saved seeds. I managed to get plants from bought seed in the past and of course lots of cuttings have taken.

I've been busy sowing shrub seeds, stuff than needs stratification, so they are in the coldframe now, and its a fingers crossed jobby Germination on some of them is up to 300 days - so I've labelled them all in case I'm tempted to chuck them out at some stage Also preparing a little tray to attempt germination of some fern spores, evidently I need to get a green slime on top of the compost first - the things some folk get me to try ;D x Tig

Apart from sweet peas, which seem to be coming along nicely, I have also sown a few chinese foxgloves and some tulbhagia. All a in the mini growhouse which has its nice fleece cover on it now. (BTW it has a pocket with velcro flaps on either side, does anyone know what they are supposed to be used for?)

Fern spores Tig, green slime? it all sounds very complicated. Best of luck with them. Bagpus I don't know what the pockets might be for, bits and pieces perhaps?

Bagpuss I think the pockets in your mini-greenhouse must be for your make-up and a hair comb, just in case you need to touch up as you garden ;D Seriously not sure what you could use them for, only thing I could think of was spare gardening gloves and empty seed packets so you can reference them as things start to germinate I have some potentilla sown Carolann, no sign of mine yet though! x Tig

I've get several trays of seedlings that need pricking out - I'm so bad at that sort of thing at this time of year - there's so much other stuff to get done while the weather is OK. I have, amongst others, Delphiniums, Sweet Williams, Aquilegias, Lavenders, Achilleas, Echinacea and two trays of Thyme.....plus I have about 200 assorted Violas, Primulas, Pansies and Polyanthus in modules waiting to be potted up on the table in front of the PT......they are all for selling down the village next year - I must get a move on!

I recon we should all move to Norfolk coz we wouldn't need to sow any seeds we could all buy what 4P grows ;D LG I'm still sorting through seed packets and pondering ;D I definately want to sow some Double Delphiniums and Chocolate Soldier Aquilegias. I've tried Chocolate Soldiers several times and had very little success, last year I had a few germinate but they came to nothing Has anyone had any luck with this particular variety, T&M do say they are challenging www.thompson-morgan.com/seeds1/product/7840/1.html

4P sounds like you have tons on the go there, good for you. Chuckles I hope you have better luck this year, fingers crossed. I just love Aquelegia, I do take pot luck with all my cross pollinated plants but I don't mind. If they come up the wrong colour I can always move them.Tig I googled stewartii but cant find out what it is?
