I hope they do better for you this time Chuckles, it is a lovely looking flower. I have some William Guinness to sow, I should have sown some already, but forgot so they will have to be a spring sowing Having soaked some stewartii 'seeds' for 3 days I have sown them in a pot today and put it in the cold frame. Just hope I've sown the right bits Which Stewartia have you got seeds for Tig? I am desperately trying to track down Stewartia Malacodendron. How can something be so elusive? i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif

Don't hold your breath folks, I may never reach baby stage (and it is only thanks to a certain lady in Europe that I'm even trying to get them growing - never mind the rest of the challenges I've been supplied with from one friend or another - you must all think I'm totally crackers ) x Tig

Thanks for the link LG. I like the stewartia you are trying - think I know whose garden the seed came from as we have talked about stewartias before I wonder if it will be easier to get stewartia malacodendron seeds in The States. Sorry Jenny - I don't know the answer to your query.

HELP PLEASE My godetia plants have had many babies and they are now about 2/3" tall - in outside window boxes Of course the frost will kill them My GF has a greenhouse. If I replanted them into seed trays would they survive there overwinter If theres no form of heating in there,i would say very unlikely to survive, but depends on the coldness of the winter, but why not try some, you have nothing to lose

I went and had a look around my godetia as I always leave them to self-seed, and sure enough ... You may still get more shooting up in the spring Jenny, and depending on how cold the winter is some of the little ones may make it with a bit of protection. They are not the most expensive seeds to buy though, so I wouldn't worry x Tig

I have found standing seed trays on polystyrene quite good - it seems to keep the chill off the roots very efficiently. They might still all die though Jenny........

According to a gardening article I was reading yesterday - you can now start indoor sowing tuberous or bedding begonias, pelargoniums, antirrhimums and lobelias Yesterday I sowed some miscanthus sinensis 'malepartus', the snowberry seed I collected, and the seeds from the yellow berried shrub and a sarcococca seed I cleaned and dried. I've got terrible 'itchy' sowing fingers at the moment - but I must restrain myself x Tig

Can I join too please. The only reason I have'nt already succumbed to sowing is that I need compost but I can feel myself weakening. I like this thread. ;D

I sowed the onion seeds on boxing day, Ailsa Craig, a whole tray full and they're starting to germinate now but only a few. Sowed my Gardeners Delight and Marmande Tomatoes 8-1-10. Peppers will be next I think ;D

I'm going to sow my Pelergonium/geranium ;D seeds today I think I've got the compost warm enough now, they have to be kept at 70deg. and as I havent got a heated propagater I'm going to keep them on a stool next to a radiator, and wrap a blanket round them at night.

How many seeds is normal for a packet, the geranium/pelergonium, had 20, doesn't seem many for £1.99. or am I getting tight.

20..blimey.. the last two packets of Pelargoniums that I had from T & M contained 6 seeds and I got 7 and the other packet had 6 seeds again and I got 8.
I have just sown the last lot and they are through - I love them but they are soooo slow growing.

I've got some pelargonium seeds I saved from last years plants - I must sow them! How long did yours take to germinate RF? Really must review what I have got that should be sown some time soon x Tig

They germinate very quickly indeed but then they take their time... Last year I grew some and in August I still had only got 4 leaves and a bit of stalk. I ended up digging them up and putting them into small pots (there were hardly any roots either) and they are now in the bedroom - still haven't flowered...well I lie - one has...
I am trying another variety and if they are the same it will be the last time that I grow them.
I cleared a load of stuff out and made a new seed box - and now have them ordered into the months that they need sowing instead of alphabetical order...mmmh - OK but when I went to look for a packet of seeds yesterday I had to go through all the months to find it!!!
I have also realised that if I sow all the seeds that I have in the seed box I will have enough plants to sell on a market stall, everyday, for about 6 months!!!
