I sow those mesimeranthumums (sp) straight into the garden usually, they should look good in your alpine house !! as long as we have sun they close up in the dull weather though.

I've got my heated propagator out of mothballs last Saturday and gone a bit mad with sowing. Heaven knows what I will do with them if they all germinate. The 'Joey' was a little beauty PJ, I called it my pink lipstick flower Despite the Gardenia being quoted as hardy, it isn't Must say you have done more sowing than I have - trying to pace myself so I don't run out of space! I was going to sow some of my new seeds today, but I shall do a few of them next week when hopefully it'll be warmer with some sunshine x Tig

I hate it when that happens Jilly, sometimes there is no apparent reason, I had some crambe cordifolia seedlings growing away really strongly, then one by one they just keeled over, while other stuff grew on quite happily in exactly the same conditions and watering regime - c'est la vie Nothing stops us trying again x Tig

Got some erythrina crista galli seeds soaking in water, for sowing tomorrow Run out of compost x Tig

I can pronounce the names, I've got my latin book now doncha know ;D It would help if seed companies put the 'common' names on the packs as well as the latin, but some of the more obscure seeds (which I enjoy trying to grow) never include any information, I have to research what conditions they prefer before I have a go. Life would be boring if we never challenged ourselves, and there is always the chance of surplus seedlings, or that nothing appears at all x Tig

The RHS only put the Latin names - as I have often forgotten what they are, by the time they've come, I have to look them up again Still, as you say, it's an enjoyable exercise................even if they don't germinate ;D

I sowed 1 lot of Lobelia yesterday in tiny modules took me ages picking them up 1, 2, or 3 seeds at a time half way through I ended up just tilting the the tub and just letting a few seeds at a time fall into the soil. Got lots more to do so I will see what time I have today as the first lamb arrived yesterday afternoon but didnt make it so OH went all the way to Gisburn to get 2 lambs for the Ewe as she has lots of milk, they cost £10 each dont know if its because its early in the season or what but last year they where £5 each.

No matter how many seeds get sown I think it's always a great sight when you see the first ones popping up is'nt it Isabella. I sowed some Cupani sweetpea. I always sow in autumn but sometimes do some around now or march as well. I did'nt have Cupani when I sowed in the atumn but I got some today for 50p.

I had a seed sowing afternoon this afternoon. I've sown Cupani, Dahlia Bishop's Children, Dahlia Bishop of York (yellow with dark leaves - my own saved seed but if anyone would like to try some they are very welcome!), Shasta Crazy Daisy - thanks Tig, Rhodochiton, Ricinus, Verbena hastata - thanks Dutchy, Rudbeckia Marmalade, Rudbeckia Prairie Sun, Cosmos Cosmonaut - saving Rubenza and Antiquity to do wafting experiment and Asarina The Bride. I got the Asaraina in the sale from SR - there were 12 seeds in the packet (very generous) and I've used 6 so if anyone else would like to try the other 6 let me know!
