Yup, definitely looks like a light problem ... my pelargoniums were similarly drawn until I moved them from the north-facing hallway to the s-w facing dining room ... but now they seem to be settling down. If you really think you're about to lose them and don't have a brighter spot indoors, perhaps it would be worth moving them to the GH, with lots of layers of fleece?? ... cheers ...

I have got them in our bedroom now which is south facing - hopefully I can get them to slow down - some of my other seeds are a wee bit leggy but these go barmy - you can watch them grow!! Next step is the GH but they are on the terrace and in the sun - not so ideal either.

I'm in a bit of a conundrem.....plugs are in at wyevale...24 blue petunias for £2.99 and i want 4 lots. Its far too early to put them in yet but i don't want them to sell out. If i buy them and pot them on now (the seedlings are a good 1/2" tall), they'll be in flower for easter. I can't reduce the temp in the conservatory because of my tropical plants and i'm getting the tuberous begonias in flower.

RF Have you got any of those small propagators with lids? the ones that are as big as a seed tray with lids that fit over them? They'd be more protected in them than on the GH staging, and you could always put a sheet of newspaper over the lids if it gets too sunny during the day in there....

Well, Echinacea, tomatoes and chervil all doing well. Three very healthy Canna seedlings, but it doesn't look as though any more will come up (I sowed eight) - mind you, still cheaper than buying the plants. Nothing yet from the geraniums, Agastache or perennial cornflower, but it's proper early days still. Pelargonium seedlings not at all happy Going to prick Cannas and Echinaceas out into a mini-propagator and put them in the mini-GH (ummm, seem to have a 'mini' theme here ...) tomorrow to free up windowsill space ... of course, that means removing cuttings from the GH to make space there. They'll just have to take their chances in a home-made cold frame ... cheers ...

This seems to be turning into a seed journal - sorry about that - but I wanted to say that one each of the cornflower and the geranium have germinated, nothing yet from the Agastache - Eight of each sown ... cheers ...

When I read all this I go itchy but I have toconstrain myself. No point in sowing before the Holiday... sigh RF are your cerinthe still going mad? If light is the problem get a sheet of aluminiumfoil behind them to reflect the light on them, it works a treat. Even my only seedlings on the go indoors ( the Berliner parsley ) stand up straight and don't overstretch.

Have you sown any cobaea scandens yet Dutchy Dear ;D ? I have just sown 5 seeds and they're already pushing through the compost (standing in a heated propagator)
When I had a few leggy chrysanthemum seedlings I cheated ;D I pricked them out into 3" pots...placing them in the compost up to their necks...they seem happier...and are now putting out more leaf...

Have you sown any cobaea scandens yet Dutchy Dear ;D ? I have just sown 5 seeds and they're already pushing through the compost (standing in a heated propagator)... No Cheery I wait with all until I am back from my hols so I will begin sowing on Sunday March the 9th. I hope. I have to do the homely thing of getting the wash in the machine. Check on all plants that are there ( those peas, onions and lettuce in the CF ). Deal with my work e-mail. Let you all know if I saw any snow or just drank too much.... And check with the moon calendar people first to see what can be sown ;D Arh er did you say heated propagator? They don't need that just a steady temp of 20C and at night it can go down to 15C. Does them no harm. You can only plant them out when it is past Ice saints 18th May. They can go into the CF in half April. Providing it isn't too cold at night.

I don't do seeds. Well much. But I have a lot of garden to try and fill and I would like a bit of colour this year.
I have already sown and transplanted dwarf dahlia, Lavertera Mont Blanc, Aster Milady and the Cerinthe.
I have coming up six grasses: agrostis, lamarkia, carex comans, melica, festuca and setaria. They all came in on of those mixed packs. RF's nicandra, nicotiana sylvestris and the cobea.
Today I have sown Cosmos Psche and Purity and my gourds.
I have also sown the mini quick grow leeks, Atal and kohl rabbi Logo in pots but this is a flowers thread. ;D

Mmmmmm. Germination of the T&M geranium and perennial cornflower has been pretty disappointing. Just two geraniums out of eight have germinated, ditto two cornflowers, one of which has now died. Loads of Agastache seedlings, but they look very small and weak First lot of cannas doing well (three germinated out of, I think, around eight or nine), nothing yet from the second sowing. Pelargoniums have their true leaves and are ready for pricking out, likewise Echinacea .... so, a mixed story ... cheers ...

No I have never grown them before CC - but I hoped that the Orange Escholzia and the Blue Godetia would make a striking tub. I have only sown a few of each...my eyes have been bigger than my garden this year I fear....
I bet I end up giving a lot of things away - I don't mind that though.

Bought me seeds yesterday
Allysum....snowdrift (honey scented) Nicotiana sylvestris (scented) 2 x Night scented stock (scented) Marigold....durango tangerine Marigold...red brocade Marigold....naughty marietta marigold....spanish brocade
That leaves me to buy 4 x 24 plugs of blue petunias (scented) and i'll be happy.
God knows where i'm going to put them all as all my conservatory window sills are taken up with tuberous begonias
;D
