Because they are a harbinger of next spring perhaps? or.. because it's when they look their best, before they get leggy and flop about ;D

My second batch of sweet peas is germinating. The first batch is repotted and out in what is supposed to be the cold, except suddenly it is summer out again. 26 and 27 the next couple of days, followed by 7C on Friday.

Acanthus mollis rotted before they germinated, I should have waited until spring Good news is that the sanguisorba menziesii and the calamagrostis have both germinated x Tig

Brave person you for sowing inside when there will be months ahead that you have to create indoor space to look after them. Maybe the Acanthus rotted away as a protective action of self-sacrifice.

Calamagrostis continue to grow well, sanguisorba keeled over Today I've sown some dust - no idea how many as it was soooo fine! Eustoma Grandiflorum Double Eagle mixed, needs a long period to get them big enough to plant out, they could be one I try and don't bother with again. Also sown 4 Leonotis Leonorus, tried last year but they didn't mature enough to flower in the disaster that was 'summer' x Tig

Remember back in May I was asking about getting Hellebore seeds going & you all advised me to leave them outside & ignore them, as Missredhead had, had success like that.... well it worked Jillyx

It is so rewarding when they appear isn't it Jilly? I have a pot of lovely healthy little seedlings of a sternii variety. Last week they were buried under 2" of snow and I was a bit worried, but they seem to be OK. I've got germination in the leonorus pot, nothing showing for the eustoma yet, but one more seed has germinated in the sanguisorba pot so I may get one yet. Also got 'something' germinated in another pot, the thing is I'd sown a couple of types of seeds in there after nothing germinated from an earlier sowing, so not quite sure what it is yet x Tig

Sown some libertia grandiflora seeds today, they are outside in one of the growhouses as they need some cold to get them going evidently.

In my experience Amber the early sown ricinus will do well if you can keep potting them on, it's just having space to keep them warm and growing until they can go out I have germination of the 'dust' I sowed on the 16th Jan (eustoma grandiflora) Got some hardy geranium seeds to sow today so they can get chilled

Nicotiana Sylvestris, love it in big groups but it always seems to flower so late so i'm trying it about 6weeks earlier than normal. Just hope i can keep them going if it turns really cold.

I've just sown Rudbeckia Cherokee Sunset, Cleome Violet Queen & a few more Cerinthe (thanks to Ladygardener for the seeds). Note to self, must have eyes tested before sowing Rudbeckia again , you'll see what I mean when I send them Jasmine. T&M didn't make life any easier by deciding not to put the seeds in a small foil envelope for a change, they were loose in the packet, (well actually they were all stuck in the corners of the packet). In the end I resorted to tipping them all out onto a piece of white paper & flicking them on to the compost one by one. It then said cover with a sprinkle of vermiculite but don't cover seeds completely , like I had a chance of ever seeing them again once they were on the compost.

The Rudbeckia are very fine are'nt they Jilly compared to the Cerinthe. Hope they all do well for you. You put me in the notion to sow something so I sowed a few Cosmos Sensation. I think I'll maybe sow some more seeds tomorrow.

Yesterday I sowed some Osteospermum Daisy Mae Mix, I've not had much luck with them before but hopefully I'll do better this year. Today I soaked some Lupin Morello Cherry seeds in lukewarm water for a couple of hours then sowed them into pots.

Getting room for everything is the problem. Our light levels are so low still, we've not seen much sunlight this whole month and most days are dark and cloudy.
