I sleep a lot and I'm still fat. Guess that's where the "less likely" bit comes in lol

I'm a terrible sleeper, always have been. Usually get through to about 2am then wide awake until 5am then a snooze for an hour then up just after 6. I'm like it for about three weeks of the month. I wrote a whole book in my non sleep time once. I don't snack though.

I'd sleep all day if I was allowed to by my OH and my conscience ;D I don't really snack either tbh but I think that's also part of the problem. Little and often is the best way to go.

Thanks for the BMI link Amo. I am overweight, (well I knew that) BMI should be 18-25 and mine is 26. But I'm not obese....yet!

I completely forgot I was beginning a new 'eating regime' this morning. I had a bacon butty! But I've been good since - honest! ;D

;D A little of what you fancy now and then. Try it with wholemeal bread, no, or the thinest scraping of low fat marg and grilling the bacon and blotting with kitchen roll. Hi Ruthie, you are lucky, I'm just into the obese It will change though

Ah well. I've gone semi veggie now. I substitute quorn pieces sometimes when I'm cooking for myself as OH won't eat them.
I was talking to a guy at work (who is slim) and it's easier to lose weight going or being veggie because you're not eating as much saturated fat and the fats that are in there are healthier sorts anyway. Plus you'll be getting all your nutrients with fewer calories.
Just a shame I'm not a huge fan of veg innit?!

I'll do that next time I forget, if I can remember ;D I've been very good today - haven't eaten at all yet. I know that's not good really! However, I'm having chicken with boiled potatoes and veg and a little onion gravy with mushrooms for tea <droolingsmiley>

Well that sounds nice Shrub!! We've had the BBQ on and a really nice, lean, steak with huge salad. Not done too bad on the water today either but have been so busy I had to keep having 2 glasses to make up for lost time . ;D

That's ok Amo, isn't it? Atkins would say so, methinks. I work with a GP who was rather rotund, and who did Atkins. He was sold on it - his cholesterol was down to 4 after 3 months doing it and he lost huge amounts of weight. I'm kind of tempted by it! ;D

Need to work on the "1-5" scale. 1 is starving, 5 is stuffed. You should eat something when you get to 2 and stop eating when you get to 4. Also, if you feel hungry, have a glass of water. If you're still hungry in 10 minutes then have something to eat. Many times you body tells you you're hungry because it wants the water it gets from the food.

I'm no dietitian Shrub, but I do think we lean more toward the omnivore than the carnivore. But then any food intake with as little of any bad stuff as possible can't be bad for you. If you don't take in fat, you don't have excess to store. Lean meat gives you good proteins and the little bit of fat you do need. At least it's not processed beforehand! If you don't live a high burn life, then high carbs are not going to be good for you either.
Maybe I'm just fed up of the word 'DIET' and want to just try the eating sensibly thing. I'm going to give it a darn good go because I don't want to live without things I like for the rest of my life!! If I want a Chinese takeaway next Friday night, I'll be good during the week to help balance it! (It's wine in the evening that's my downfall!)

Hi Ruthie, you are lucky, I'm just into the obese It will change though Yes Amo indeed it will change, even if it takes a while. We've got to keep a troshin' (as they say in Norfolk..............and, no, I don't really know what it means!) I haven't been doing too well this w/e. Breakfast and lunch are OK but Tonight, for example, I had Chicken and pasta (without the pasta, OH had all that) but I had garlic and parsley flat bread with it....swimming in oil and yummy but not quite the thing! I've also had 1 1/3 bottles of wine since last night! You and I have a similar problem I think Amo. Hi my name's Ruthie and I'm an alcoholic I like a drop of wine occasionally!!

I think there's a load of scientific mumbo jumbo thrown round about food too. So tend to agree with your reasoning Amo in respect of what to eat. I lead quite a sedentary life so I'm going to make an effort to get more exercise but keep my food (and wine!) intake down. Now that the weather's improving - that should give me greater incentive. I always have a pot of fruit at lunchtime - addicted to it now. Need to cut the carbs down so I'm going to cut out bread completely and have pasta on occasions. Hoping to stick to high protein, low fat foods with some carbs for interest! SR, wine's just to so easy to slurp isn't it? I need to cut down on that too ;D

And as for the little slice of cheese that goes with that extra glass!! Argh!! I have at least come to terms with the fact that I am never going to be model proportions. I have always been one of the 'heavier' types. My daughter is my height, 5ft 6ins, very, very fit and curvaciously slim but she still weighs 11 stone. One diet class I went to had my ideal weight goal down as 9 stone!!! I don't think I've ever been 9 stone apart from briefly passing through it during puberty! I'm using the scales as a gauge but I know when I feel right, unfortunately that's not at the moment. Onwards girls!! And Andy from tomorow ;D ;D PS I only managed 2 glasses of wine with the BBQed steak last night but I did down a couple of glasses of water beforehand. That's a huge improvement on the best part of a bottle I would of had normally!! And it was a rather good Aussie so the full flavour more than made up for the lack of quantity. ;D

Not too bad a day today. Had some more of the chicken and veg, this time with rice. My Mum had a powercut at home so came to us for dinner, cups of tea and warmth. Luckily her neighbour rang mid evening to say power was back on so I could take her home (she can't get up and down our stairs so would've had to sleep on the settee).
As a result I didn't even think about having any wine!!!!

How's it going Amo? Weigh in tomorrow!! I must say all these recipes on here don't help much! Perhaps this should've been on the hobbies and pastimes thread. On second thoughts that would make us look really sad! Q, what is your favourite hobby? A, dieting!!!

I've had an apple today, half a tin of peaches and 2 quorn burgers on buns. Oh and some mixed nuts.
We were going to have scrambled eggs on toast for tea but I'm ready for bed and OH hasn't mentioned tea (well he did have 6 sausages on 3 buns for dinner...! ) so I guess we're not having anything tonight.

Oh April. I cannot imagine the day my OH wouldn't menton tea if i didn't prepare anything. Full cooked meal every night with plenty of meat and either potatoes, pasta or rice. He doesn't care about the veg but will eat what I put on his plate. If he didn't have any veg he wouldn't really notice as long as he had enough meat/potaoes etc!!!

Hi Girls. And super Hi to MRH!! I was good to start and have tried to carry on being good but I've been on my butt for most of the day since Tuesday and I hate that!! I've not been eating bad and haven't done too bad in the water intake I just don't think I've burnt enough off this time to be significant. (And the anti stress wine has been a bit generous too ) But I've survived and there's always tomorrow. (I will not pick up the phone I will not pick up the phone I will not pick up the phone)Tomorrow will tell!! I know it's really hard getting your head around the 'well he's having it,so I'm going to have some too', thing. I just dish up less, try to eat slower and drink more water and then imagine those nice summer clothes waiting to be worn rather than squeezed into!! ;D ;D Good luck all
