Went yesterday with my One Gardening Friend to Bloom 2008 (Ireland's garden show, started last year) and had a ball: came home with two gorgeous Campanula Punctatas, as well as sorrel, curry plant, sage and chocolate mint from a herb nursery. First big gardens plurge for a while (well, actually the lot only cost €24), and can't wait to get planting this afternoon ... cheers ...

Just did another order from Crocus - ordered lots of plants and didn't even have to go out in the rain! (My last order from Crocus was really good, the plants were in fantastic condition, secured well in their box and the Gertrude Jekyll rose was flowering so the smell was gorgeous!)

Last week went to Threntham gardens and came back with a lovey grass called Uncinia Rubra. Its now in a terracotta pot outside in a sunny spot.

Mmmmmmmm Chocolate mint sounds delicious. Do you have to wait till after eight o'clock to eat it though? ;D The plants from Crocus are superb, aren't they? Too easy to press that button though And Uncinia rubra is a lovely grass, really sings out in the garden. I planted it in one of the gardens I look after.

The plants from Crocus are superb, aren't they? Too easy to press that button though You're right weeT - I've ordered from several companies and the only 2 that have provided plants that arrived so carefully packed they were still in one piece were Hayloft and Crocus. The only problem with Hayloft is that you have to have at least 3 of any plants you order.

I agree about Hayloft. When it comes to Penstemons, for example, I'd rather just buy one plant and take cuttings, they root so easily.

But they do have some lovely plants and sometimes it is hard to find some of the things they sell elsewhere... !! I agree about penstemons - they take so easily if they touch the ground they root themselves!

OH booked the car in for its service this morning and the garage is just a very short walk from my favourite GC! I said I was very happy to take the car in and wait for it to be done!! ;D I had tea and millionaire's shortbread on the cafe terrace and then bought a honeysuckle, a buddleia and a clematis (Artic Queen). Then the car was ready.........! ;D

Oh what a tragic situation for you. What's millionaire's shortbread?
Nice plants!! ;D

Oh what a tragic situation for you. What's millionaire's shortbread? Nice plants!! ;D Miliionaire's shortbread is shortbread with a layer of caramel/fudgy/gooey stuff and then a layer of chocolate. A friend and I are on a mission to find the best millionaire's shortbread locally. The GC is winning hands down at the moment!! ;D That is why it is so hard to avoid a visit when you pass buy - plants AND scrummy cakes!! I had to smile about the clematis Plocket. I have gone from having none to having 3 and a list of others to look out for in the space of about 3 weeks!! ;D

I bought a dwarf Cleome today - "Senorita Rosalita" didnt know you could get them so ickle - £2.99 which I though very good considering how difficult they are to germinate
And a super little yellow daisy plant - dont like bright yellow plants in my garden but had to have this - Lantana Lemon Cream "Lucky" - never heard of it before

Phwar that sounds tasty! What a lovely mission to be on ;D It's addictive Jasmine. There are so many to choose from that I'm convinced there is a clematis for everyone - or more of course!

Oh I do like a GC with a Coffee Shop which has good cakes. And I love Millionaire Shortbread. Don't make it now, I'd be enormous, so I have it when I am out.
Jenny, I got free Cleome Seeds with Amateur Gardening, and they germinated really easily. Heaven knows where they are all going to go, because my neighbours don't want anything as big. I sowed them and kept them warm in the house until they needed pricked out.

My friend and I have been to B&Q this evening to get plants to do hanging baskets for the local Garden Fete at the end of the month (bought the baskets last summer in Tesco sale for 29p). They had lots of reduced plants that just ned some TLC, so we came home with lots. Going to be busy tomorrow!

there are often good bargins to be had in B&Q TCL. at the end of last season I bought dianthus and viola for next to nothing and they're still flowering their socks off. It's great to get a bargin.

That's strange about the Cleome, because I don't do anything special at all. I must have got over 50 plants. Though I do usually have far too much of everything I sow. Perhaps you are all too hygienic ;D I NEVER wash any of my trays, pots or tools, so perhaps there are wee organisms that help everything along. A bit like when I was a teacher.......... I taught first in quite a posh school, where the children were forever sniffly and coming down with ailments. Then I was moved to the widely recognised worst school in Glasgow. 52 pupils in the class, most of which were dressed in filthy clothes. They were rarely washed themselves, and had nits and fleas as a matter of course. Were they ever sick? No. So dirty-up folks ;D PS I keep the house clean Unless I'm too busy gardening B&Q is wonderful for reduced plants needing TLC

Just out of interest, I counted my seedlings of Cleome. 68 Of course, they are still babies, plenty of time left for them to keel over and die. ;D

68 WeeT!! Wish I knew where I'd gone wrong. I planted my cleomes at the same time as I planted my free AG Asters and Cosmos and they are doing just fine. Think I will try and find some ready made ones like Jenny! ;D

Oooh I've got gazinias - I'm constantly surprised at how well they do, year after year. I've got them in a pot mind you because they couldn't be doing with my clay!
