Just caught up with this Ladygardener. I'm so glad you got your money back. I remember this happening to me with SR and they wanted the duplicate of everything sent back but I rarely get to the PO - it isn't very helpful is it and takes up so much of your time and so on. Looks as though Mr F's should be neatly filed along with T&M - wait til you read T&M's response to coming in Gardening Which's bottom 5 on-line GC!!!! As I won't get to see the mag - what was said?? RF

Bet it's the CEOs Mum voting constantly!!!!

It was the funniest thing so maybe!!!! Which surveys seem generally to be very robust - it would not be a good thing to be in the bottom of one of them but I bet being in at the top increases your sales no end!

Some comedian wrote those lines surely. Room for improvement!!!!!!!!. I would say without a doubt it would increase sales and I'm sure being near the bottom would put some people off. It would put me off for sure.

Enjoy Geranium - it was a politicians answer for sure!!! I think you're right Ladygardener - I think your average Which reader would be put off! I wish I knew which company they were talking about that was sending out hybrid bluebells as native bluebells - I have an awful feeling I know who it is!!! I planted some from T&M back in the autumn - I will be watching what comes up like a hawk!!

I went and looked in my pile of magazines but I got sidetracked because I found AGs dating back to Christmas!!! So I read those first, and took them over to my elderly neighbour. She doesn't mind if they're out of date magazines, luckily. I shall work my way down to Gardening Which. Not that the report will change my opinion of T&M - I just avoid them at all costs now. I suspect they might have got the message, because they haven't sent me any catalogues this year! That's fine by me - I recycle anything from them, anyway.

I quite like T and M and have never had any trouble from them or with what I have bought. However, I will never use Crocus after 2 bad experiences It just goes to show that we all have different experiences, which is why all these companies are still trading profitably

Isn't that strange, Auricula - do you know someone at T&M to get such good service? Acksherly, I do - one of Eva's daughters works for them. She swears they don't get many complaints!!!!!!! Oh yeah? I use Crocus a lot - always had brilliant service from them. I also like Burncoose, but they're OTT on price.

You are lucky then! Great range of plants in their catalogue. Is the Nursery a good one to visit, Auricula, or is it too tempting? My whinge is about trugs. I started off with a rubber builder's one, which is boring black but very serviceable. Then I found the coloured ones, but they go brittle and split. I've had to throw one away, as it disintegrated, and the other two are on their way out. I can't track down any more rubber ones, so I bought two new plastic ones yesterday. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Does anyone else have the same problem? I don't have trugs except for the large black builders ones which I use for my veg garden - infact all my veg garden is made up of different building type trugs and tubs, buckets etc. They are so hard wearing, boring yes, but for my veg garden they are marvellous. One thing that I have seen and that maybe worth a think is to get a black rubber one and camouflage it - I have seen some wonderful ideas on the web but the main thing is that the trug last for years... I bet your OH could come up with a wonderful wooded casing.. RF

Jasmine got one last year I think Geranium, a coloured one if that's what you're after. It was a half trug I think. I'm sure I saw coloured rubber ones in B&Q.

I bought 2 very cheaply a few years ago and they were out in all weathers - the body of the trugs is fine but the handles split in the end so you can't really lift them if they get too heavy. A few months ago I got 2 new ones and like Ladygardener says a half height one - that one is so useful!!

Is it rubber, Jasmine? I've been to all the possible places to find rubber trugs, without success. No rubber ones around, whatever colour, and not even on line! That's why I decided to get the two on BOGOF and treat them as almost 'expendable' items. I do need trugs - obviously.

I'm guessing so Geranium - they are very flexible. I got them in our little old fashioned iron mongers in Heathfield - they have them in all shapes and sizes!

Have you tried the DIY? I got a screaming pink one from Karwei ( Dutch DIY shop ) that seems to age well. No broken handles as yet. And that is at least 5 years in. They still sell them but I am not sure quality has changed. The blue one I have is from an Ironmongers, just like Jas, so yes try those too.

Grumble Here Dutchy - we haven't had the rain - snow, yes and rain for the first time today but with the frozen ground it is making everything rather slippery. However January was very dry in our area... RF

You're lucky to have a good old-fashioned shop, Jasmine. Yes, Dutchy, I've been in all the DIY stores, even my least favourite shop of all time - (whispers) - Wickes. They all seem to have similar products, but no rubber trugs. Please don't mention wet weather...I get anxious.

We've had a dreadfully wet winter so far. For many many days the garden has been waterlogged, no chance of turning any soil at the allotment and no ice to break down the clumps of clay either. It's been a case of just spreading compost and manure on them and going for the no dig option.

Aren't we just Geranium - it is the sort of shop I'd have gone to with my Gran and Grandad when I was a little girl! It would be so nice if it would just dry out enough to get out and do some jobs - I was reading The Telegraph jobs to do this week section but you'd need waders to do most of them.

I didn't manage to do anything when I got back from church. To be honest, I couldn't be bothered to get changed. Silly really, when it was probably the only dry day this week!

I'm with you Barbara I know them as Peacock Orchids but they are also known as Sword Lily, Abyssinian Star and Fragrant Gladiolus Its not just the proper names that change people also give them common names.

I have whinged about this before - well, what could happen, I suppose. Sorry this is a bit long but I am really fed up!!
For those that follow my garden thread, and also this thread, will remember that our neighbour died, new owner cleared not only the house but also the so called garden.
We now have a problem that we both knew would happen but I would like to hear what you all think!!
New owner (as against new neighbour as he has rented it out) said to us, and the neighbour on the other side, that he would get someone in that met with our agreement - i.e our ages, no children apart from grandchildren etc etc.
Fine we thought - then he said that he has let it to a woman that is a kindergarten teacher and had a 9 year old daughter that played football!!! Bang, wallop - gawd help us!!
He said that he has stated that they must have respect for us with their games and footballs etc - I just cringed to be honest. I saw them playing football last year - the ball went over the neighbours fence (1m high here) and they jumped over and got the ball and carried on...we waited for the same thing to happen here...
I will skip a load except to say that for the first time in over 30 years we suddenly got an egg thrown at the kitchen window. Silly perhaps but this upset us both a lot and I am sorry but I still think it is the 9 or now 10 year old kid from next door.
This afternoon happened what had to happen - wonderful spring weather and suddenly 3 kids, football fanatics starting playing football next door. At this point let me say that we do not have any fencing at the moment as the owner has taken it all off (see my garden thread) and we are still waiting for him to come and put his own fencing up. The left side of a house/garden is the responsibility of the left hand neighbour - we look after the right side. OH opened the back door and asked them to be careful as there was no fencing and we don't want any footballs in the garden or them coming in to get them.
So the ball went into the other neighbours garden and over the fencing they jumped, got it back and carried on - not much to trash there actually as it is mostly just motley bushes...
Then the ball landed in our garden - guess what, doorbell went - they hadn't jumped into the garden and got their ball, they got Mum and came and rang the bell - ran to the fencing so that they weren't on our property even... smiled at that and that is at least a plus point for them...however nothing else is...
As I said Mum is a kindergarten teacher and kids can do all and everything they want - children are children. OH knows that my garden is my hobby and passion and although I am willing to always compromise with events I never compromise with my garden. There are enough shitty things that happen that we all know - S & S. creepy crawlies of every order, horrible fungi's, weather and and and.
OH went out and actually shut the door behind him as he knew I was heating up quite nicely...he can stay calmer than I can when it involves the garden.
She wanted the kids ball back and it started - OH said that he wasn't accepting footballs in the garden, it was my hobby and now his as well and that a ball does a lot of damage when it thuds into the garden. It wasn't just a garden for me, it was more, and how would the kids feel if we came and ruined their favourite hobby - would they like that - OH said that they just looked gormless actually. Mum argumented that they were just kids - OH said that he was also once a child but that he was told were his borders were and that flattening the neighbours garden was not allowed.
I do realise that they are kids but must I really accept that they flatten my garden - must I accept that even when the fencing is back (one metre high) that a ball flies over and a beloved plant or glass ornament is shattered??
The new owner broke his promise when he got the new neighbour in - I do understand that he needs someone that will pay etc but at our end of the road we are all older and it is very quiet - well was anyway.
People are saying that we must accept that the kids will play and also accept that our garden may get flattened - children are children.
I don't accept that at all - why must I have things destroyed in the garden - why ?? I don't accept the argument that kids are kids and we have to accept that!! I certainly wasn't like that as a child.
