From a novice--When do you sow the seed for Morning Glory and do they need a greenhouse to start them off? You can sow them outside April May time Bigs, no GH needed Thanks Chuckles--I think I shall try them next year.

Is it the end Jenny, went out this morning to find that yesterdays strong wind, and heavy rain, had brought our Morning Glory down to earth,it just lays across the ground, battered and bruised do you think it will ever flourish again?

My MG is growing up a very flimsy trellis - it never blows down and I can never understand why not - am just lucky I think - and it is in a "wind tunnel" too - by the side of the house

The answer is yes,i picked it up,proped it up with canes, fed it well, and was rewarded with some flowers

Oh dear I don't know FB! If seeds have been produced it's worth a try. I've only grown them twice, both times from a packet!

FB they're lovely. Mine are still growing up the post by the gate and clinging on to the clematis despite the gale force winds. Saving the seed is easy. Each seed pod has about 5-7 seeds if I remember. They germinate quite well in spring but should'nt be put outside until all chance of frost is gone. If it ever stops raining and the wind goes away I must go out and see if I have any for next year too.

I had great success this year FB with saved seeds, I sowed later than most, the last week of May and this pic was taken towards the end of June. They were planted out about a week later in some of my larger pots with climbing roses and the likes in and one lot planted in the corner of one of the raised veg beds. Mine have only just gone over and have set seed heads so I'll be collecting again for next year. Also have a packet of Sunrise Serenade to try next year, it's a pinky red colour with a white centre. These are my last lot still flowering, bit nibbled now on the leaves. These were the only ones I planted in the ground. Maybe ones grown in the ground last longer, any thoughts folks.
