4 hours for updating critical things on the laptop, and can't use it while it's doing it, is windows 10 going to do this to me a lot.? Hahahaha - no idea but that is one reason I am still on Windows7 Barbara, it still has roughly 5 years of updates to get as well. Plus W10 knows where you are all the time and I don't like that either.... Mind you this is a new laptop isn't it - that will mean that you can't change back to Windows 7 - well, that is what I understood anyway...

Big brother knows I'm in the kitchen Rosefriend, ? Well, the full story is this - Mrs Bucket's OH is also a pain in the goolies and messes around with his PC all the time, finding all sorts of weird and wonderful things to add on and mostly just cocks the whole system up. Anyway he is on W10 and asked when I was going to change over (this was when you could change over for free) and I said that I wasn't going to as a) I was more than happy with W7 and the bugs had all been sorted out and that wasn't the case with W10 and b) there was another 5 years of updates before I had to change over. Then he started with - Yes, but you don't need to put in things much, the PC knows that we live here and not there etc etc Then I told him that was the 3rd reasons that I didn't want it. You go to Weather for example and suddenly it is showing your exact town and not one 20/30/40 miles away as W7 does. Loads of things on W10 that go too deep for me really.I don't want them all knowing exactly where I live etc...next thing they will be in the kitchen!!

Windows 10 is the best yet IMO for user friendliness/ navigation of folders etc. Especially start up time. Once all the updates are done Barbara there should be a few now and again but not a lot.

BT customer overseas support. They couldn't understand me and I couldn't understand them most of the time
A circle of ... Them: ... your line is showing no faults sir
Me: I know. It's the hub that's overheating and cutting out.
Them: OK sir. Your line is showing no faults sir.
Me: I KNOW. It's ...
Them: We will monitor the situation for 2 days to see if your line shows any faults
Me: Noooooo ... It's the hub ... oh never mind BT can just take my money and give me no service in return.
Them: Thank you sir. We shall be in touch after 2 days if a fault shows on your line.
Me: Fine I'm going to bang my head against a wall
After buying a new router I can finally get online for longer than 10 minutes. But seriously hacked off at BT not the script reader I spoke to.

That's a real shame maglonian, I have had nothing but excellent service from BT Broadband ( we have superfast infinity whatsit )I have had to contact them 3 times over the years and been put through to India where each time I had no difficulty in understanding them. Not only have they fixed the faults but told me what to do should the same thing ever occur again. Hope you get better service next time, should it arise.

Tescos finest aka Waitrose essentials 4 x extra large orange in nice orange plastic "string" sack = £0.67 each, same orange purchased individually loose =£0.55. What's that all about. Same applies to Morri's, Sainsbugs and Tesco, roughly the same % difference. Not tested Booth's, too far away!

Lets hope that at least they enjoyed them, the little blighters. Sounds like they did leave you one or two Barbara, How can a small plastic "string" bag costing closer to a half penny than penny warrant an uplift of 10-15 pence per orange on bags of 4 or 5 oranges?

That's a real shame about your sweetcorn Barbara! fozzie, it's often the case that buying loose is cheaper. My whinge is that one of our street lights has been out for 2 weeks. It's quite dangerous as there are 2 kerbs to navigate. My neighbour reported it but I went online last night and wrote to the people who deal with such things and reported it again, letting them know that for health and safety reasons it needs to be repaired asap. I pointed out that many elderly and disabled folk use the pathways. We'll see what happens.

Good luck with that, Ladygardener !
My whinge - I was not sure whether to a) swear, b) scream, or c) cry, so I did all three.
You know I maintain the village sign box, well, I now appear to maintain the other one at the other sign, but that's fine. That one was, however, falling apart, so I asked the Parish Council via the Chairman if they would kindly replace it and also pay for the compost as it is going to be a large amount needed to refill both boxes. I also specifically asked that my first box, which was still full of colour, should be left for a few weeks to be replaced. I was happy to provide spring bulbs and plants (for both boxes) - but not quite yet.
You can guess what's coming, can't you. Yes, when I drove past box no. 1 yesterday it had been emptied of the pretty plants, replaced, and just the Salvia 'Hot Lips' stuck back in at one side - yuk! I drove down to box no. 2 and that had also been replaced. There were two horrible, boring Euonymus japonicus there and they had carefully re-planted those, plus three half-dead Cyclamen. Yuk again.
I stopped off at the nearest Nursery and bought 4 x 6 pansies, and next I shall have to buy something for the centre of each box and strip them out so I can plant tulips first.
I am FURIOUS with the idiots who can't read emails and couldn't use their common sense when a display still looks great.

I love music, any music, well nearly! And Tig and I used to bounce tunes back and forth in the wee hours of the morning. Now I fall asleep before the music thread "loads" up. Why does it take soooo, yawn, looong? Whats happened? Is it me? Is it my puter? OR Is it crepe "Software Engineering", love that phrase nearly as good as "Hybrid Tea" (spit)

When our street lights go out I ring the freephone number on it to report it and it's usually fixed within 48 hrs.....since they replaced the lampposts with the more energy efficient ones and took away all of the old ones it is very dark in our Close.....if I didn't have a little battery operated light outside my front door I wouldn't be able to see the key hole...

This new laptop keeps sending me red alerts, 84 of them, saying my firewall is turned off, when I go into the gubbins it says it's turned on. soooooo frustrating.

I think you can turn the firewall notifications off somewhere in Windows 10 Barbara, would need to google where though!

Barbara,Firewall notifications: Go to the Control Panel, view all control panel items, and change to an icon view (not category). Look for and open: Security and Maintenance You'll see the good ol' notification screen from Win8 and 7. Just click Do not notify me under the firewall setting. My whinge ... is it just me or has the standard of driving gone even worse on the roads. I had to go to Chester today and there were 3 instances of mindlessness. One ... well, all I can say is the worst case of overtaking I've seen in 32 years. Still on the wrong side of the road going around the corner. Only to turn off 200 yards up the road. I wanted to stop and have a word but my wife wouldn't let me. It's never the idiots that get killed ...
