;D ;D I'll have to give it a try - I never have cos it said the roots break off when you put them into soil. I'm sure to break something soon while I'm tidying up so I'll see how I get on

I find penstemons root really quickly in water but you do have to be careful as you plant up the rooted cuttings and be a bit gentle with the firming down otherwise you can hear the roots breaking

I have always done penstemons in water and they root well iv never had any problems doing it that way. Hydranger do the same . I have potted them up today with some more cuttings i have taken today of lavender and penstemons.

My dad is having a man go into his garden tomorrow to take out some overgrown shrubs and an old apple tree...I went in this morning and tool a few cuttings from his viburnum...it was planted by my parents in 1977 and I want to try to save a piece of it. I failed with the viburnum cuttings RF sent me I used cuttings compost with plenty of grit and put it in the CF....

I've just potted on some Fuchsias that had rooted in a jar on the windowsill. I seem to have lost the knack of doing cuttings properly the Daphne are just about hanging on but I've got nothing from the Penstamons. Seeing as everything seems to want to root in water these days I've just done a few more Penstamons & some Dahlias, all in a jam jar i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif Jillyx

I took some fuchsia cuttings today. Actually I didn't really take them - OH broke them off chasing next door's rabbit. If it's not wild bunnies wrecking my garden it's pet ones ;D Anyway, they are in a jar of water now.

OH was chasing next door's bunny Jilly - it had escaped and they didn't seem to be very fussed about coming round to catch it themselves I thought he was very brave - I'm not very good with small furry creatures. I snipped some bits off penstemon Jill Harris today as they were flopping over the pot anyway - have stuck them in a jar to see if they'll take.

It's worth having a check Jilly. I put mine in the lobby while we were away and when we got back I noticed a bit of white on the lower leaves of the bits I cut off - it is a bit airless in the lobby if we aren't coming and going. After stripping off the mildewy looking leaves I was left with 3 ok looking little cuttings.

I just put fuscias in to compost Jilly, if it's cool I put a plastic bag over the top if it's warm I just leave them to get on with it. I find it works for me.

I took some Lemon pelagonium cuttings the other day. They're in a jar of water on the kitchen window. As soon as I see roots I'll plant them. I'm trying to layer my lithodora, I've tried umpteen cuttings but none have taken. Fingers crossed perhaps this will work although I'll have to wait until next year to see.

Gaura are lovely flowers and I only found out about them last year Isabella. I might try the next lot of lemon pelagonium straight into compost. My little fuscia cutting that I took from a friend seems to be growing and doing well for me.

I've tried doing a pot of cuttings from my Curry plant this year for the first time. They've been in about 5 weeks now, but when I checked a couple of weeks ago, they hadn't shown any signs of rooting, but they still look ok.

I took some Penstamon cuttings at the weekend, I resorted to some rooting powder, which I don't normally use, but It's a bit late & I've not been madly successful with cuttings this year i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif . I've just this minute come in from a ciggi break, they're cutting back the shrubs in the office car park atm. I've pinched a bit of a shrub, I've no idea what it is but it's evergreen & has got translucent purple berries. I'm not good with shrub cuttings, but I thought I'd give it a go, it was only going to be thrown out. Might try sowing the berries too. Jillyx
