Those are good shots CPB. I saw one in my garden today, on the perennial cornflower it was.

oh I'm so glad....I know that the some species are seen in early spring, but last year we say red tailed bumblebees all summer.

They are all very busy aren't they Thanks for the information Cheery, it is nice to know how to 'sex' them and such This isn't a bee it's a hover fly but I like them too and the bees do like the echinacea - think this one must be a 'chap' then x Tig

Photographing bees is addictive I think...I love crawling about in the flower bed with the bees whizzing past my ears whilst I try to capture them with the old digital... ;D they can get quite close or even brush past me as I kneel there, they don't seem to mind me being around either....

Thanks for sharing that piccie Barbara, it really made me smile - and the borders with the helenium and the grasses look fantastic It seems like a lot of bees have been out and about this morning, although there is a strong breeze and some of them are just not very aerodynamic!! They are all lovely Tig - well done such patience I saved a Bee's life once am sure I told you did you know they are not very clever in the air and can bump into each other very easily - saw a slow motion film about them
