Just seen this thread, great pic Tig. I saw a bee yesterday out in my garden too. Definately the one I saw was'nt a hover fly and was buzzing from snowdrop to snowdrop.

Spent part of the afternoon trying to take picture of bees in flight around my garden (and in particular around my ornamental cherry which is absolutely full of blossom at the moment), Difficult subject, especially as I was trying to manually focus, rather than using autofocus, which I've been trying out lately. Managed to get 200 fuzzy blobs but a couple that I quite liked. FA x

Thank you both for the nominations. I actually prefer pic 3 myself but that's because I have it set as my desktop wallpaper and it looks great on my 17" monitor.

What lens did you have on FA? Were you using continuous shooting or single shot?

I prefer this bee in flight because the photo tells the tale with the bee as central importance. It is very much like a portrait of that one bee staring you in the eye. Whereas the other photo speak of spring and spring flowers with the behinds of some bee in sight ;D The vague of the background and the flowers it is flying toward give it a painterly quality too. The harsh graphic effect a sharp leaf in the background would have given which would have cut the image harshly in two and might have given a dis balance is well tackled with the soft focus it gets now. That makes this one a well balanced interesting photo. Things might have been a bit sharper around the bee, more depth would have been perfect but hey you go tell a bee it is to hang stock still
