Hi LNG I think the American actress (Claris?) is 84yrs young, she was terrible but very entertaining this week I thought. You have to give her credit for having a go even though she is not very good at the Latin dances. I missed most of last nights CD but will have a look on line at them.

Can't wait for tonights results, OH does love to watch the female professional dancers, lilia & flavia are his favs. Not sure who will be in it tonight, though I reckon Jessie may appear in there, Lisa seemed a lot better, but Jodie does not impress me in the slightest, it must be her height.

Jodie seems like a lovely lady, but she's too wooden. I like watching Cherie out of the ladies. I'm still not sure who's a potential winner (out of the ladies) though!

Just caught up with this thread.I love SCD and have watched from series 2 onwards.Brendan and Ola are my favourite professionals - nothing to do with talent but Brendan is fanciable and Ola is stunningly beautiful!! Austin to win

I cant believe Jodie is still in it - it is so awful to watch the poor girl - no rhythm, no co ordination - poor Jelly

I dont think the judges ever really liked Jessie. Thought her 2nd dance was much better. Jodie should have gone imho. It'll be good to see both the men and women competing next week.

There are so many poor men that I think the women will be safe for a couple of weeks.Having said that,Jodie is poor and Heather struggles a bit The competition does have more edge when both genders are competing - I wish BF would retire gracefully though!!

Brucie is really starting to annoy me, but that asside I'm still loving Strictly. Jodie comes across as such a lovely person, and although she's obviously trying she's not got the grace or rhythm that is needed - look how awkward she was about the sexiness of the rumba! Jessie has always put so much into her dancing but she does seem to have struggled to remember the dances. I can imagine she'd be a lovely person to have as a friend, but again I don't think she's much of a dancer. I thought Lisa and Brendan's dance was lovely and both she and Rachel have improved a great deal (in my opinion!). But the rouada? Nah I didn't particularly like that

Am I really the only person in the country who thinks Strictly Come Dancing is the biggest pile of steaming horse on telly ? Mrs FA made me watch about 20 minutes of it last night. By the end I would happily have cut my (ahem) bits & pieces off with a rusty spoon than watch any more of it. Truly awful. FA x PS - Just modifying this post. If people want to watch it, that's fine, I'm not criticising people for doing so. I just think the show itself is utter garbage.

FA, have you watched the X Factor, or Big Brother, or I'm a celebrity............. etc etc? Those are the BIGGEST piles of what you said IMHO!!! SCD, if you don't watch the goss programmes or read the rags or listen to the Local radio m*r*ns is, I think, good old fashioned entertainment and long may it continue. PS. I never visit the Footie thread 'cos I'm not interested in Football................

SCD is the ONLY reality show to which I will give houseroom!! I like the idea that people are being taught something vaguely useful, by professionals - and if they look stupid it is not due to malicious editing, but due to their not having practised enough! Also, unashamedly, I love the campness, glitz, glamour and colour of the spectacle ( it reminds me of my herbaceous border ;D ).I cannot, however MAKE OH watch it with me !! P.S. Chelsea to win the Premier league

Ah the joy of choice! I absolutely LOVE Strictly - I love that it's celebs having to actually work hard and make an effort if they want to stay in the competition; I love that it's the beauty of dance that is being used; I love that Ballroom Dancing is becoming popular all over again now that Strictly is on; and I love to have a good natter about the costumes with LP ;D
I think the difference for me is that it's a reality show where people aren't being ridiculed. Everyone, even the celebs that can't dance brilliantly, is respected and encouraged by the judges, audience and other competitors. You can't say that for The X Factor, I'm Celeb or other reality programmes.

I see my post has provoked a little discussion. Good, that was the idea - this is a discussion forum after all ! I admit to being a little provocative with my post. I really can't abide SCD but I have no problem with people who do like it. Everyone has a choice after all. What I can't bear about the programme is 1. the doddery old fool Brucie, who can barely read his lines let alone deliver them. He should have retired years ago. 2. the panel of judges who are smarmy, arrogant, pretentious and pompous all at the same time 3. the fact that it's generally a bunch of z-list has-beens/wannabe's who are only on the programme because their career is either coming to an end and they want to try and raise their profile or who are desperate to climb the greasy pole to "the top". I hate the music, I hate the costumes, I hate the dramatic pauses before each result is announced. I hate the whole damn thing. And as for other reality shows, I do occasionally sit through the x-factor but only when they get to the live shows. I don't like all the hysteria surrounding the auditions and I don't like the way they ridicule the rubbish performers. Clearly some of these people have mental health issues or are just plain crap and the way they metaphorically point their fingers and laugh at them is despicable. I haven't watched BB for years and I don't watch anything with "celebrity" in the title, except Masterchef. The "reality" shows I prefer are things like Trawlermen and Traffic Cops, which show real people doing real jobs in really tough situations. FA x PS - SR just because you don't like footie, doesn't mean you can't come on the footie thread and have a discussion about it

I can understand some of your points FA but I can't see Mark Foster needing to improve his career, or Austin Healey wanting to climb up the personality ladder - aren't they both fairly well up it already? I agree to a certain extent about Brucie because I find him incredibly annoying, but somehow it won't be the same without him. And Strictly was his idea I believe. I think the judges are perfect - I don't want some simpering bimbo judge - I like that they seem to know what they are talking about, that they can criticize, but also praise when necessary. Out of interest, what does MrsFA think of Strictly?

I think Bruno, one of the judges, is hilarious - he is sooooooooo over the top in a funny camp way - Len Goodman is irksome - cant abide him - but Arlene well she invented HOT GOSSIP - so she is my Heroine ;D and Craig - have to have a "Simon Cowell" on the panel being nasty and giving low marks

I agree with Plocket with most of the Points she raised especially ----
"I agree to a certain extent about Brucie because I find him incredibly annoying, but somehow it won't be the same without him. And Strictly was his idea I believe."
I also like X-Factor when they get to the 'Live' stages, but I wouldn't think I had really missed anything if I didn't watch it. There doesn't seem to be very much on the Television worth watching nowadays. And anything like Big Brother--Well--there is always the Button as FB has said.

I left the room and Mrs FA grabbed the tv remote. When I came back, she'd changed it to SCD and said that for once she was having control of the telly . I then moaned about SCD being on and she said "why don't you watch it, you never know you might like it". I knew from the bits & pieces of it that I've seen in the past that I would hate every minute but just to keep the peace (and because I couldn't be arsed to get off the sofa ;D), I stayed and watched. 20 minutes or so of my life I can never get back. FA x
