I'm going to sound as though I'm contradicting myself here but I think it's a shame he's pulling out. I don't for one minute think he stands a chance of winning but perhaps the pressure he's now under has made him take the decision. I would have preferred to see him continue dancing but be voted out in the proper manner - next week!!!!!

but would he have been P? I think that it is a shame that he has bowed to pressure.....I mean why did the programmers ask him to take part if they were worried that he might win, whether from the judges or public votes? It's an entertainment programme after all. They always stick in some people who they know won't be good at it but if they want only good dancers then stick to ones that they know will be good at it.... Sorry about that

I think it is a shame really - he was put in an untenable position. Not his fault that people have been voting for him - and I don't think he would have won, and the people who have been voted off already wouldn't have either because they didn't have the publics support?

PS.....just ben and had a look on the SCD message boards - blimey o riley - they take it all a bit seriously, do they realise its a telly programme ?? Some of the remarks are venomous Poor old John was rubbish, but he was such a laugh and at least he tried - he failed - but he did try !! Bless him and Kristina, they were funny. Looking forward to seeing the "serious" stuff tho - wish I could have a go. ;D

I read last saturday that he was booked on a world cruise, I wondered then how he would sort that out. BUT, I can't believe it's headline news, with all the other stuff going on.

Well it makes a change from us having to talk about the weather! And it's quite exciting news in my little world when I want to block out all the nastiness like Baby P, Shannon Matthews etc. etc. It's a bit of a distraction really isn't it? I can't say I've heard any really venomous comments though - about John or any of the dancers. The judges have to be critical in order for the celebs to learn. I was actually thinking that Craig had turned into a much nicer guy this year ;D As you say, it's given the programme a bit of a bad smell and I can't help wondering whether it will appear next year

The word seems to be that John felt pressurised into going. However, I don't think he is the sort of character who would bow to pressure. I think he was really enjoying the fact that he kept getting voted to stay and seeing the frustration of the Judges. To be honest I think it was becoming physically too much for him and, lets face it, he wouldn't have expected to still be in at this stage. And, unless they have changed the format, he couldn't possibly have won. If I remember rightly the public vote picks the last 2 and the Judges decide, on a dance off, which couple win the contest. It's nice to really get your dander up about something that, in the scheme of things, doesn't matter a jot

That's exactly it Supa! I like to get involved in something that really doesn't matter, but that I have a personal opinion on.
I think it's hysterical that John leaving Strictly has become so dominating in the news!!! At least it's light hearted compared to murders, kidnapping, money worries etc. etc. ;D

Exactly - in the drear, dark days of November, with the Congo crisis,Baby P,Shannon, not to mention the credit crunch and the England cricket team's woeful displays...........how nice to be able to get thoroughly involved with a storm in a teacup about something which matters not a jot!!! ;D Bring it on!! ;D Can't wait until Saturday evening. Now if we could only oust Brucie ;D ;D

I don't know about misunderstood He's certainly missed the boat as far as live tv is concerned !!! ;D ;D If he were to be replaced by Anton the effect would be the same, just with the clock rewound forty years! ;D

Calm down girls its only a show ;D Been on the Beeb site good grief most of them should get out more and get a life or stop watching SCD, lots of folks on there are just plain Evil. JS only has himself to blame for sitting there with his smug grin saying the public will save him, its Kristina I feel sorry for having to make dances up for him yet trying to make him look good. I used to like him but not anymore, he is nothing but a name dropper and James was right in what he said. Climbing down off the soap box now.

;D Oooh-er Missus Wonder how he will get on dancing on Saturday night? What will he do - just dance for fun and then not get any comments from the judges? Hows it gonna work do you reckon? It was on Breakfast news this morning and one guy (a competitor in the first SCD series whose name now escapes me ) was really scathing about the way the judges have commented about JS off the show - in particular Arlene. He said they had acted inappropriately and was quite fierce about it. So there are lots of folk who take this all very seriously I'm off for a quick cha-cha- cha - well just the one actually x Tig

It's turning into a farce now: some wally MP (what's it got to do with bloody Parliament?) has demanded that the judges be sacked!!!!!

Reading on the BBC boards John has an engagement on a P&O cruise that he cant get out of, don't know if its true. And I agree it has become a farce now. What the Beeb should do is get people who are roughly the same age so we don't have this sort of thing happening again and take the 50% vote off the general public. The judges do a wonderful job most weeks and the program would not be the same without them. Sorry but I cant warm to Bruce, he has had his day and I think its time he got a new script writer, I don't find him funny anymore just a little annoying, and Tess with her northern accent can be just as bad, and I'm a northerner born and bred.

Never had all this fuss when Gaffney and Jules(!) could not dance but kept winning. Every series has its "Two left feet" "Cannon fodder" person. Its all part of the "Game"
They need the viewers votes to coin in the money and viewing stats

It would'nt be the same without the public vote, it would just be a dancing competition then, not so exciting and we'd all be saying it was fixed by the judges. ;D I think people were perfectly entitled to vote for who they wanted, it'd be sad if only the good dancers were allowed to have fans and people voting for them. That would'nt be fair would it. I did think JS was entertaining but not a great dancer.
