It is true that Spru/Brian has been very poorly and it will be a while before he fully recovers.
After a false diagnosis he was finally correctly diagnosed as having Pleurisy and given antibiotics, of course. He felt a lot better and went back to work where he had a relapse.
A very long story, but enough to say that a doctor was called out and things got a little better until Sunday when he was taken in an ambulance to the hospital to a unwelcome couple of nights. Still very weak and far from well he has been discharged.
It will be a while before he feels fit again so, Get Well soon...
RF/Sue

Hope you get well soon Spru. Pleurisy is horrible I understand. Best thing is to TAKE IT EASY for a bit. DO NOT go back to work yet. Let nature and the healing process take its course. Meantime you know we're all wishing you better

Thanks to you all for your kind messages of support. This has been a very drawn out process but just to summarise... This is my fourth week off work, having initially been misdiagnosed as having a kidney infection, and then two days later the same doctor said that I had pleurisy on my right lung. Two days further on he said he didn't need to see me any more and I could go back to work the following week as and when I felt able. I did manage to crawl back in the following Wednesday but on the Thursday had to come home again after just an hour. On Friday 28th November I had blood tests for a possible blood clot and spent 9 hours in hospital undergoing tests. The verdict was that it was 'just' pleurisy and that I should just rest and have more antibiotics. I had a very bad day on Thursday 4th December and I suspected that the condition had moved into my left lung too. I had to have the doctor out and he prescribed some anti-inflammatories which did ease the situation. All along I was becoming more and more breathless and last Sunday lunchtime (7th December) I felt as though I just couldn't breathe fast enough after just walking upstairs. Consequently I had a trip to hospital by emergency ambulance and spent two days there, underging various other tests including a CT scan on Monday afternoon. The verdict is that I have a blood clot (or for the medically minded 'pulmonary embolism') on both lungs and it is likely that I have had this from the outset. Consequently I have to take Warfarin tablets for six months, subject to regular review and in addition for this week (hopefully only) I have to have anti-coagulent injections in my stomach which is not at all pleasant. I still feel very tired and weak and am having to pace myself which is very frustrating. Although I must say that climbing up a 14 step staircase on my bottom with stops every two steps is something of a novel experience. ;D I am hoping to feel a little stronger as time goes by but for the moment my visits to GWD will be rather hit and miss. It just depends how I feel on the day. The hospital registrar told me yesterday that it will be at least another two weeks before I am fit enough to return to work, but I think I will err on the side of caution and not go back until I am 110% fit!

Oh my goodness Spruance, I'm just catching up now. Having a PE is an incredibly serious thing. I'm so glad they've finally diagnosed it correctly for you and hope you are soon on the mend. Honestly don't even think about going back to work for a few weeks or longer. It will take a right toll on your body. Great big get well wishes for your speedy recovery. Hang in there.

Hasten slowly, Spru. It is novel but boring being 'weak at the knees'. Do exactly as you are told; keep warm and look at the seed lists. Don't even think about your garden until the Spring - it can look after itself for a while, you know. ;D

Thanks again for all of your good wishes. I've had a mixed bag this last week and was very nearly readmitted to hospital last Thursday after a bad morning. So after spending several hours in a freezing cold clinic room - I never made it to a ward - I was sent on my way having finally seen a consultant at 20:15 (from a 13:15 admission. ) That particular consultant told me to remain as immobile as possible for five days, but having revisited the DVT clinic again today, and am now told that that was a load of b@#@ ahem, not the best advice and that instead I am ok to move freely around the house so long as I don't get out of breath. My blood 'INR' level has improved to 2.3 (from 1.9 last Friday) and so I no longer have to bother with the daily anti-coagulant injections in my stomach, although I still have to take my daily dose of Warfarin in tablet form. As an extra special treat I also have to wear a pair of thigh length surgical stockings every day (although mercifully not in bed) for six months. The only drawback being that the clinic are only allowed to issue patients with a single pair of stockings as the government has wasted £9.4 billion on the 2012 Olympics due to financial restrictions. It seems that I can get additional supplies on the inevitable prescription from my local surgery, although they suggest checking independent sources first. Otherwise, apart from the fact that I am still virtually under house-arrest things are beginning to improve albeit rather more slowly than I would have liked.
